I am not for raising taxes but this is getting stupid. It seems like the jail if falling apart and the inmates are running it. If you have a scanner just listen to it around 10:30 at night. It seems like twice a week the jailers are calling for help because the inmates will not go to bed. I think it is time for a new jail, it sounds like it is falling apart.

If anyone knows how many jailers do they have working in the jail at a time? I kind of remember a articles where Sheriff Baker said one or two people usually work in the jail at a time. How many inmates are in the jail at a time? If I had to guess I would say 60 to 80 people but I don't have a clue. I have never worked in a jail but how can one or two guys handle 80 people. It just doesn't seem safe to me, but this is what we are stuck with, thanks to the State.

Thisis Kline's 2nd escape in his successful life as a criminal. Ad that to a failure to appear in court on a sentencing day, and I just dont see how he could see sunlight for at least 20 years, by that time he will be a real great guy..

Having previously worked at the Henry County jail I find it hard to see how this happened. It is the correction officers job to continually monitor the condition of the cells. Knowing how the cells are built, they should have easily noticed tampering with the ceiling panels. They are steal panels so.if the officers are doing their job they would see the tampering and secure that cell until repairs could be made. And if they were doing their hourly checks they would've noticed this issue if he started tampering with it that night. This should be placed solely on the staff of that night. Correctional work is not hard work, stressful but not hard. While I understand how short staffed the jail and work release are, it is an officers job to use their eyes to make his/her job easier. If you watch regularly, you stop a lot of problems before they get this far.

previous employee, if you reallydid work at the henry county jail, i dont see how you can be surprised. this jail is a joke. maybe you are just mad because you were responsible for some escapes in the past and you are just rabble rousing. Also, the guards hardly EVER enter a cellblock. sticking your head in at feeding time isnt good enough. The only time i know of guards entering a celblock bodily is during a shakedown, and evidently even then they dont do their jobs. I spent a couple weeks as an inmate there, back in 2002, and maybe thats why i know a little more about the situation than you do

Actually I did work there...didn't say I'm surprised knowing how bad of shape the facility is in. Just saying if they do the job as it is suppose to be done this wouldn't happen. I stopped multiple attempts at escapes in my 5 years there and it is all because I did my job right and walked the cells hourly, did my maintenance checks, and properly handled the problems as they occurred. I left for a position making a lot more money without the political headaches and was actually asked to reconsider leaving when I left. I don't find it one bit surprising knowing that the administrations won't do anything to the lazy officers that do their jobs wrong but are hard on the ones that do their jobs correctly and efficiently. 90% of the staff wouldn't make it in any other county jail because they are scared to do their job or just too lazy. And the 10% that are actively watching and stopping problems get harped on for being too hard on criminals. If the administration would rid the jail of lazy employees and quit hiring their buddies they might have people that would do their job right. Like I said previously, had they done regular cell checks it would've been noticed because it takes time to get a panel down and out a roof.

The article in the paper said there are two correctional officers and 122 inmates. One of the correctional officers is always in the "bubble", so you basically have one person to watch 122 inmates.
just wondering

I do not understand why they don't just have a couple of the officers that patrol take turns so many times a week to work at the jail...
That way they would have at least 4 officers at jail at a time.
Make it like work there 2 days out of week and patrol the rest..take turns....JMO

It was stated in the newspaper that there were two employees on duty that night, one had to stay in the control booth, so that left one employee and I believe the paper stated there were 120 (?) inmates. I think they need to hire more deputies.

If you take them off patrol wouldn't that leave patrol short? I usually only hear 3 deputies on patrol at a time, that doesn't seem like a lot to me. The counsel doesn't seem to care about public safety. I don't know the faces but 3 deputies can't cover the county and 2 can't cover the jail.

The closer the election gets the more I think the current incumbents need to be booted out. The only one I know personally is Nate Lamar and I can't stand him. I wish he was up for election because I would love to see him gone. But back to the topic. They will not address this issue so I say we vote people in that will.

When you are in love with someone you tend to see past what they are or what they have done. I don't know any of these people, but that was totally uncalled for. Have some respect.
