Caddo Mills is a great school, and Brian McKamy is a great teacher, and principle. He may be tough, but he has high standards for these students. If the student wanted to wear jeans that broke OUR dress code, then he should've taken it to the board, not just gone out and worn whatever.

There is a lot about this story I have been wondering about. If the injuries were so severe, did the family take the boy to the emergency room? If so, what happened? If not, why not?
If the paddling was so traumatic, how did the boy have the presence of mind to take photos of his buttocks and then show the photos to friends.
Why is the school district so adamant about supporting the principal? If he is so violent, as the parents claim, wouldn't they want to get rid of a bad apple? And, if the principal is as bad as they claim and supposedly has done this many times before, why is this the only claim on record?
There is a lot about this story which was not covered in the article.

I think this ordeal was an outrage! This is a horrible HORRIBLE school disctrict. It is full of racism, nepotism, and favortism and it can't be tolerated! My child's education should not be determind based on my family's name. Sadly, that's all this place is about. I feel that Mr. McKamey as well as the superintendent (and a few others) should be terminated. End of story.

I've been doing some research on this school and the paddling. I came from a town near Houston, which was a pretty big school, but I was still un-aware that this still went on. I had a chance to meet someone in Caddo Mills who is friends with the boys father and heard the story. Apparently the boy lived with his father and his father was out of town. He didn't have many clean jeans since he was at his mother's house. (From what I understood). He had to go to school in the morning for an early class(something we called 'zero' hour). The boy called his mother and told her he needed new jeans before school started. The principal was standing outside the school when his mom arrived with him and saw the hole and made a comment about them. The principal then made the boy go to the faculty bathroom instead of the regular bathroom to change his pants. So his pants were changed before school officially started for the day. Then the principal still paddled him leaving him with bruises. I was told as soon as the boy was paddled he went straight to the bathroom and took pictures of his butt on his cell phone then went to class. In class he told his friend about it and he didn't believe him so he showed him the pictures on his phone, that's when he got in trouble with the teacher. So I honestly believe this school is messed-up in more ways than just one. The person who told me this was not the father, but the father of two children who attend there. He told me some of the stories that his children went through where the school put his child in an alternative learning center for defending herself against a girl that went to another school. I'm way beyond determined to stop this injustice that's being practiced on our future leaders.

I have answers to this question too while I was listening to the story. Well at least about the principal. Why none of the incidents were on record. Well let me start of by saying a man is trying to help out the district, I didn't get his name, all I know is he is wealthy and hired private investigators to look into McKameys past. The investigator found out there is a reason why McKamey left them. The schools 'fired' him. Really what happend was, McKamey did what he did, the school decided to fire him, instead of putting it on record and having a bad rep for that school, they told McKamey if he risigned they wouldn't put it on record. That's why there is no paper trail on him. And as far as getting rid of him. I was also told that the board of trustees CAN fire him, BUT he has the right to sue them. I couldn't really figure out why, but apparently it has something to do with... him doing his job and them telling him he's not. Somewhere along those lines.

The best way to avoid such things happening again is to ban corporal punishment in schools. After reading the circumstances surrounding Jay's paddling and seeing pictures of his bruised buttocks, it appears that more was involved than mere discipline. Sadism and brutality have no place in our society and certainly should not be permitted in our schools.

I swear to to the Lord above that if a stranger hit my child with a weapon (Yes a paddle is a weapon) I would condone my child protect him / herself. Then I would beat the hell out of the person myself. Yes, I may go to jail, but they would KNOW not to mess with my child.

There is nothing wrong with paddling students when it's done for the right reason--this was clearly the wrong reason; he changed his jeans for Christsakes--why was he still paddled?

You are a hypocrite lady. You speak of God and his judgment, yet you speak in profanity against an educator. I am a senior in high school, and you are a grownup, so start acting like it. You speak of doing your homework before you present an argument, yet I am willing to bet you never did your homework in school and were one of those girls who were distractions to other students. It is time for a revolution, and you've just been handed your butt so shut your stupid mouth.

I too have investigated Brian McKamy and feel he should be locked up for what he did to Jay. What man is his right mind could hit a child so hard that would cause them to fall to their knees. As if that wasn’t enough, McKamy proceeds to grab him by his belt loop and yank him up so that he could continue to beat him. Anyone who leaves bruises and welts on a person should be charged with aggravated assault and serve jail time. I can tell you for sure, If any parent hits their children the way McKamy did Jay, they would be in jail so fast it would make their head spin. So, why is McKamy able to get away with it? I guess he must think in his own pompous, arrogant way that he’s above the law.

McKamy is a MONSTER. He is not a man of religious faith and integrity who cares for the safety of our children. If he says he does care then he sure has a pretty sick way of showing it. It upsets me to no end that a disgusting person like Brian McKamy is even allowed within 10 miles of ANY school, much less, let the monster continue to be the principal in a school where ALL the children who attend are in the greatest of danger.

I think you’re missing the entire point. Look at this dress code violation from Jay’s perspective and know that FACTS before you start defending McKamy. Fact 1: Jay realized he wasn’t wearing the appropriate attire. This in itself tells me that Jay understood the dress code policy and did everything he could be address the issue. Fact 2: Jay made a conscious effort to correct the situation by calling his father to come and provide him with an acceptable pair of jeans. What was he supposed to do this situation, wear just his underwear to school? I don’t think so. Fact 3: Jay’s father made an excellent choice by bringing Jay an acceptable pair of jeans. Fact 4: Jay did everything in his power to make sure he was in compliance with the dress code BEFORE school started and he succeeded in doing so.

No, the real point to this story is that Brian McKamy had it out for Jay long before the jeans incident and he saw this as a perfect opportunity to seek revenge/retaliation against Jay for things that may have happened in the past.

If I were the principal that day, I would have walked over to Jay and shook his hand. I would have let him know how much I appreciated his efforts in making the right decision and doing the right thing to correct it. Instead, he just got the hell beat out of him. Where’s the appreciation for Jay’s efforts in that?

If the student paddled really wanted something to complain about, at our school they bare your butt before you get paddled. Swats given, your butt is on fire and hard to sitdown in class or at home if paddling given after school!
