i had coach utter for my senior year of basketball, i never really liked him, because he was just a very rued man. He never proved to me or any one else that he could be a good coach. i dont really care what he did, but if he did do this HE NEW BETTER!!!

..I can't believe this. People who try to demonize the young woman for finally coming out about the abuse, people who would rather attack the girl than accept what the man did, and accept he should go to prison..for shame!

I had Coach Utter for my 8th Pre-AP History class. He was my favorite teacher, running until my 12th grade year, when i found out about what he did. If i can accept what he did, when he was for all intents and purposes my favorite teacher in Cabot, why can't everyone else? What he did was wrong, and he should go to jail for it.

The girl who came forward about the allegations is a good friend of mine. She wouldn't lie about this sort of stuff. She was run out of high school for coming forward. Why would anyone lie about something like this? This outrage that people would honestly attack the girl doesn't stem from my friendship with her, but rather the belief that a rape victim should not be attacked for coming forward, and the fact that she has been is simply appalling.

Even if the girl thought they were "boyfriend and girlfriend"..even if he father knew about it..Coach Utter still committed Statutory Rape and should be prosecuted for it.

Yes, Dan is my friend.........but I'm very happy to hear that he did plead guilty. I'm glad to see that he stepped up and took responsibility for his actions. Having gone through a similar situtation with my young daughter, I'm so glad that a guilty plea was reached. If not, she would have had to go through the ordeal of a jury trial. Going through the trial would have been a nightmare for all people concerned.

Does anyone know what he pled guilty to? Also, has a sentencing been set or was he sentenced today? In our case, the perpertrator pled guilty, and he was released to get his affairs in order. Then, he had to report back to the Lonoke County Courthouse in 3 weeks for formal sentencing. After the formal sentencing, he was taken into custody and sent to the ADC.

I hope this young lady has a good therapist. She will need one to heal. My daughter had a super therapist at Children's Hosptial who saved us both........ Also, I hope that Dan will get some help as well. ADC doesn't really have a good therapeutic approach, but hopefully he will do a lot of self-reflection while he serves his sentence. Everyone concerned will be in my prayers throughout the coming months........

What a stand up guy we have in former teacher Dan Utter. What does a pedophile look like again?? Most people don't think of the neighbor next door, the friendly teacher, or trusted family friend. Pedophiles are often in a position where they have power or authority over a child.(A CHILD is anyone under 16 years old in the state of Arkansas...) Pedophiles often choose places to work at, or find ways to be near or involved, so there is easy access to children, such as schools & sporting organizations. People who molest children can be the respectable member of the community, the ‘nice guy’ down the street or a family member. Children are not able to totally protect themselves from sexual abuse. Adults who behave in a sexual way to children not only break the law...case in point...Dan Utter pled GUILTY to sexual assault and will be a registered sex offender. Dan Fan’s...at least he will not be teaching children now...

Ive kept my mouth shut about this because all of the people who truely believed he did not do this. Well I guess for those of you who believed in your friend just got slapped upside the head when he plead guilty. Something like this doesn't just come back up after this amount of time and not be true. This little girl did not want him to get into trouble. She cared for him. She did not start the process. Coach Dan utter started it. He is to blame. He knew this girl was to young to get himself involved with in the first place. So if anyone wants to point the finger at this poor little girl just think about that. He was twice her age, her teacher, and her friend. It should have stopped there. End of story.

Well we do live in a state where, until the last session of the legislature, there was a law on the books allowing for toddlers to marry with their parent's consent. It was a "scrivner's error," but it was still on the books for a while.
There is no excuse to be made for a child predator. It doesn't matter how "great a guy /gal" or how many times they helped you overcome burdens or hard times... they are sick individuals who cannot be helped. If you don't have a built in recognition of appropriate boundaries by the time you are an adult and legally responsible for yourself, then you never will.
