1 dead, 1 hurt in SUV-semitrailer collision in DeKalb County

One person was killed and another seriously injured Thursday afternoon after a sport-utility vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a semitrailer on a state highway in DeKalb County, police said.

I can't believe how many of these I read where people cross the center line. What are they doing while their driving. People, when you are on a two lane highway going 55 - PAY ATTENTION! I've had to dodge some of these people way too many times lately. Why can't anyone just drive? I honestly think they need to start ticketing every one on a cell phone talking or texting. My condolenses to the family!

Why would you say this? You should have started and ended with your last sentence. Do you really think it's appropriate? You have no idea what happened.

No Name (does anonymity take away responsibility for your comments?), we are talking here of the loss of a loving father and husband who left a wonderful wife and three beautiful children. The area of the accident is a wide open area approaching a curve which is blind due to high corn near the roadway. The roadway itself is very very rough and the State of Illinois should assume some responsibility for this tragedy. We do not know exactly what happened to cause the accident and there is no way that we can accuse anyone of being on a cell phone or otherwise not paying attention. No Name, can you honestly say that you have never, ever had your vehicle wander over the center line? I really doubt that. What our comments should be is to give sympathy and condolences to his family, uplifting them in prayer, and also prayer for the driver who was injured.

Does anyone know how the semi driver is doing? Ialso traveled that road frequently and the potholes got so bad I found a different route.
