Thinking about moving there, but am concerned about changes I've heard about in the last couple of years-give me as many opinions as you have. Thanks.

I've lived here for a couple of years. The only crime that I've noticed was that I left an ashtray full of quarters in an unlocked car overnight and the money was stolen.

Although nothing excuses opening someone else's car door and taking money, I did ask for it. The ashtray was open. I assume some teenager saw it at night and the temptation was too much to resist.

My son was driving on Goodman and there was an empty coke can rattling around under his feet. He got aggravated and reached down and threw it out his window. He was stopped and ticketed.

As far as I can see the police in OB are doing a wonderful job.

There are problems if you are actively looking for them, but to be fair, this is a great town. The park is wonderful, great new YMCA, lots of friendly neighbors. The local library is the best in Desoto County, especially their staff. The local churches and schools are exceptional and the crime is low. Hard to find a better hometown. The growth keeps you spending your money in your own town, without going into neighboring Memphis. The mayor and his wife are a really lovely christian couple, who care about the well being of the people as well as the business community. The town is clean and progressive, the downtown square is a great place to shop and gives you a since of community pride. Come join us and see for yourself. You'll want to stay!

i moved here form Edwardsville ( you know where that is) about 6 years ago. If you are going to move to the memphis area this is the place to be. Olive branch is a nice little town kind of similar to edwardsville . Cute little old downtown area, parades at the drop of a hat, music in oldtown thursday nights. Baiscally a lot of the same things i left up there.
Don't come down to the memphis area looking for that "southern hospitality" we always heard about up there. you will find it , but in limited supply. There are a lot of rude surly type people in the memphis area but it's not so bad in OB

Police are excellent, I had an untimely death of my 16 yr old dog last July during the 100 degree heat wave. The shelter was closed and no other place would accept the dog. Well it was 100 degress and I didn't want the kids to see it or a health issue waiting for Shelter to open after holiday. So I wrapped it up in blanket and plastic; followed Emergency Vets instructions and dropped it off at public dumpster with voice mail to place. LOL- I swear this is true, I made it exactly 1 block before 2 Police crusiers pulled me over and questioned me. Citzens called in a suspicion dumpping?? BODY? The cops were very professional and on it. Lucky me after my story checked out they let me go without a ticket.
I had a big mastiff like dog 160 lbs. and it sorta freaked them out at first. If you like good police wotk OB is decent for a small town near a big city.

We lived in memphis area and couldn't wait to leave. So nice to read about all the stuff going on there and not to live there anymore. Olive Branch has that little old town country feel to it. Crossing over the line from memphis into Olive Branch is like night and day. Busyness to pastures and peaceful living. I am not aware of any or much crime. The world is a changing place so stuff happens anywhere, but I am totally at peace living here. I would have to say I don't agree with the police stories. I find them rude, liars and getting away with their role. I have stories of both my husband and I getting a ticket for something and having them lie in the report and in the courtroom about what happened. I was furious, but hey, I am a great driver and I don't expect to have many situations EVER with the Police. Schools are ok, programs are not as good as in the east or other areas of the country. The are much much better than memphis though. You pay for your kid to go to private school in memphis but you put them in public schools in olive branch. No matter what...after moving here, I would never live anywhere else. No matter how much growth is going on, it never seems to affect the feel of the area. They keep shopping area away from residential areas so there is not traffic issues everywhere. Just move here!

We have lived in Olive Branch since 1993. It was about 4000 people then, about 35-40,000 now! Memphis isn't good to live because of crime & urban decay. We are growing with more shopping & restaurants. The police department keeps a pretty tight handle on things, partly because we are next to a major city. Also it looks like we have a hospital to be built here in the upcoming few years, which will help because the nearest hospital's are about 20 minutes away. Check out "live in Mississippi.com " for homes for sale.

Olive Branch, MS is a filthy, hick town. The schools are horrible-check the OBPD Facebook page for crime reports. Every week at that middle school there is some crap going on, a week or two ago a kid threatened another with boxcutters. The police dept are a bunch of arrogant, power-hungry filth that will harrass you and your children. They have officers working in that dump they call a school and still can't maintain order. There's gang activity and violence all the time in the schools. Plus, you can't have a conversation anywhere in town because of the noise of thunderous monster trucks speeding all over town. They keep electing the same hayseed mayor because they're all stupid. Don't move there! Maybe several years ago it was a nice place to live, but not anymore. I have never been treated worse than by the OBPD. They are all hot-headed jerks who spend the majority of their time harrassing the law abiding people like me and our children rather than doing their job. They are a bunch of civil-rights-stomping filth and they are getting ready to open their new Gestapo HQ on Old 78 and it will get even worse. People who like it there are delusional.

People are people anywhere you go. The town is made up of all types, but I have been here for 15 years and would not want to live anywhere else. The schools are student focused and strive to educate each and every one of its students. Some students, however, just can't be reached. Of course small-town gossip goes on, but over all if a family is in need, the town reaches out to help. I don't encourage new people to come in for selfish reasons. I don't want to lose the small town atmosphere that still exists here. The schools have outstanding athletic programs as well as performing arts programs.

Wow! I teach at the high school a block from the middle school and I know of very little problems that go on. I don't know what this person is talking about with "monster trucks speeding all over town." I guess hearing trucks depends on where you live. The police I have deal with have been professional and kind. The ones at school are caring and help kids all they can. I have a detective working on something personal for me as I speak and he has been extremely respectful and considerate. So many times kids think that "there is nothing to do" in Olive Branch, but it's funny how many of them can't wait to get back home after leaving. There has to be a reason that we are the fastest growing town in Mississippi. We are now the largest school district in Mississippi. I actually wish people would quit moving in. I don't want to lose what we have. So maybe I should just say that this person writing the negative is right, "Don't come here, people might talk about you." heh, heh

Yeah, the teenagers there can't wait to stab each other? Why don't you talk about the crime and problems with the teenagers in that pigville? Oh, yeah, it might make OB look bad. You have an OB detective working on something? I bet he can't find his rear end with both hands and a flashlight.

I moved here in 96... This is a good town as far a safety is concerned. I would walk down any street here at night and feel safe. As far as the education system goes, it is very lacking. Unfortunately MS. Does not have good educational funding. I transferred here from a public school in memphis and classes were so boring to me in OB because I had already learned the material years ago. I was also is gifted classes in Memphis and OB offered only 2 classes. And those classes were a joke. If you have kids the best bet is to enroll them in private school ... Not because the schools here are dangerous but because the lack of funding creates a lacking education system. As far as the cops go, they really do crack down on the kids here. My friends did alot of community service for things such as breaking curfew or having cigarettes and being underage. I don't know if it is still like that but I do know the cops are always close by here
