I hope that woman is laying in her hospital bed AT WISHARD (and the taxpayers expense, in all likelihood) in such godAwful pain that she is wishing she succeeded. Now she has what will feel like a lifetime of recovery. Burns are the worst kind of pain to endure. Hopefully someone will counsel her before she gets out and tries again. I can think of about 15 other ways to do myself in, burning myself to death is NOT one of them.

On a more serious note, I can't fathom anyone immolating themselves. What powerful/sorrowful emotions it must take to do that! What horrible suffering for her and her family.

It is truly sad when someone feels they have no hope, but to try and take one of your children with you is deplorable. All the same, I do hope she gets the help she needs and that the girls will find a way to deal with this senseless incident. I agree, too, that of all the ways to go - burning yourself alive would by my last resort.

I agree she had no right to put her children thru that. I just think there is no need to wish her pain I am sure she is in pain and probably mentally ill.

NORTH VERNON — Yvette “Micki” Jackson was upset about her boyfriend’s failing health when she used a bottle of Everclear grain alcohol to set herself on fire, according to her mother.

Jackson, 39, is in critical condition with third-degree burns at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis after lighting the blaze Monday evening at her home in Country Squire Lakes.

Sheila Helton, Jackson’s mother, said her daughter was in a medically induced coma and is scheduled to undergo skin grafts.

Helton said Jackson had just gotten home from Columbus Regional Hospital, where her boyfriend is in a coma.

“She was really upset about that,” Helton said.“She didn’t think he was going to make it.”

Monday afternoon Helton received a phone call from her 14-year-old granddaughter, Keisha Jackson, who was in the car with Micki.

“She said ‘Mom’s about to do something,’” Helton said.“I then heard my daughter say ‘Come and get her out of my car. I’m done — it’s over.’”

Helton said she immediately started driving to Micki’s house, while attempting to talk her daughter out of doing something drastic.

“I told her to think of her daughters,” Helton said.“Then all of a sudden Keisha said ‘She’s just doused herself with flammable stuff.’

“I couldn’t reason with her — she just snapped.”

Pulling into Country Squire Lakes, Helton said she passed an ambulance.

“I was just praying it wasn’t her,” she said.“But when I got to her house there were ambulances and a whole bunch of people standing around. I got out and yelled ‘Who is that.’ When they said it was Micki I just started running and screaming.”

Sitting in the driver’s seat, Micki set her Everclear-soaked body on fire while Keisha sat in the front passenger’s seat.

“Keisha said (Micki) just sat there for a few minutes burning,” Helton said.“And then she got out and started rolling on the ground to put out the flames.”

Maj. Jerry Shepherd, Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, said it looked like burns consumed at least 60 percent of Micki’s body.

“She had gotten out of the car and ran into the house and got in the shower,” Shepherd said.“When we got there she was not on fire, but the car was.”

By the time firemen put the flames out only a shell of the car remained.

“It was completely destroyed,” he said.“Everclear is extremely flammable.”

Shepherd said Keisha was hysterical.

“She was really upset,” he said.“She had some minor burns on her skin and her hair was singed.”

Emergency workers took Micki and Keisha to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital, where Keisha was released with minor injuries. Micki was transported to Wishard.

Helton said Micki suffered third-degree burns over most of her body and is scheduled for skin graft surgery Friday.

“They had to put her in a coma and they put a tube down her throat to breathe,” Helton said.“She’s just hooked up to all kinds of things.”

She said Micki’s daughters Keisha and 12-year-old Keiana Jackson are devastated.

“I am going to try to get custody of them and they are going to need counseling,” Helton said.

[who knows the truth]

in the first place she didn't just come from the hospital .she was at the hospital at 10am .and her boyfriend she was making move he was so sick that the doctor's only gave him 72 hrs to live .she let him live with this for way over a month.and wouldn't
take him to a doctor .and he had to pee in a can for 2 days before she finally thought he was going to die then called for help.and he wasn't in a coma on that monday ..dr.just didn't want her back there because she was rude to the staff.and now she wants to blame this on a man that is 32 and and she almost let him die .but yet she loved him and she was caught by some people shooting up in the parking lot.and she called his family doctor in dugger when he was in icu and told the doctor he was home and he needed his meds .come on now .then she wanted to keep his ss check and her 14 yr old called and wanted to know why a family member wanted the check and what they were going to do with it .then this man's mom gets a phone call and says if my sister dies i will find you no matter where u r .after she neglected this man and wouldn't get him to a dr.and this man was in surgery for 5 hrs and they cut off 112 lbs from him and he was on a trake ,and central lines and a kindey machine .well let me tell you why she did this she needed the drugs and she couldn't get them .so she was upset.and she couldn't handle it so she just figured this was best .but her daughters should not be with the grandparents they r about as bad as she is .they came in they hospital and started on a family member of the guy in icu.so how smart r they .so who knows the truth and who has the proof .well think about it .and i hope she makes its and they press charges for intent to kill .her daughters meant nothing to here .and to burn yourself up is so wrong but she knew someone would save her .she is not going to harm herself to kill herself .she just needed a fix .so she got it when she went to the hospital.the police were called before this happened cause they kept calling the man's mom and cussing her out .mickey's daughter done it the 14 yr old. and i know this is the truth and not a lie none of it .cus mickey was ask if she called the doctor and she said no but the doctor said she called him for the meds for her b/f and the dr told her he was in icu at columbus.but yet she was making this man move out of her trailer .and he told a friend i am so sick i think i am gonna die,
and mickey knew he was sick but she told if i call for help he will leave me .so let him die that was her answer i guess.well he almost did but thank the good lord above we,think he is going to make it .thanks to all the prayers and the concerns about him and all the people who knew them and said they sure hope he stays away from her.its sad but to neglect some one who needs help is wrong and there is a law againist neglectand abuse on a person this man didn't know nothing when they got him to the hospital didn't even know his family.now thats sad.thanks for reading this it means a lot just for people to know the real truth.and mickey is doing ok as far as we know but she is dangerous to others and this should prove it
