I read on the Humane Society web site and saw that it costs $100.00 to adopt a dog.

A lot of people could give one of those dogs a good home and can afford to feed them well but can't afford $100.00 to adopt one.

If it didn't cost that much more people might adopt.
Thats right

That dog you adopt has received all of the shots needed and is either spayed or neutered...something most folk in Johnson County do not do for their animals.

Even if the $100 was not just barely enough to cover what the society spent on medicine, food, neutering, propane, electricity, insurance, snow plowing, lawn mowing, building repairs, etc., if you can't afford $100 to adopt a dog, how the fuck can you afford proper food, annual checkups and vaccinations, vet bills for unexpected problems, flea and tick control, fencing for a yard,...?

"I love my dog" is NOT a substitute for proper care of a dog. Dogs and children are expensive. Dogs less so, but they ain't cheap. If you can't afford proper care, DON'T GET A PET. Have another kid instead; taxpayers will subsidize those expenses. If you can't afford a $100 adoption fee, YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO PROPERLY CARE FOR A DOG.

If someone comes in to the office and questions the amount of money it costs to adopt is that how you talk to them?

Maybe the Humane Society could get more people to adopt if you wasn't there, you have terrible communication skills.

What would _I_ be doing in the office????

Lady, I am NOT "there". Furthermore, do you have some reason to believe that the Humane Society has a shortage of adopters? They run blurbs about not having enough volunteers, but what's the basis of your suggestion that they need "more people to adopt"?

The shelters are so over-run with animals that people decides they no longer want and set-out.Ignorant amd uncaring people also refuse to have their female spayed and bring even more unwanted litters into the world.Usually, most people can only afford to PROPERLY take care of 1-2 pets.
A dead black dog is lying beside the road on Slabtown Road.I did not turn it to see if he/she has been shot; but most likely, has. Another heartless pet-owner!

Aw jesusfuckingchrist, are you yet ANOTHER of those topix.net drones who thinks she knows who I am? Or are you just one of the old ones, now posting under a new name?

Just so you -- and anyone here tempted to pay attention to you -- can see how belligerently uninformed you are, I have only once been to a County Commission meeting and that once was a long time ago, all I did was watch, I had no speaking part, and I concluded that attending any more of their meetings would be more irritating than useful.

But, hey, this is topix. No need to let facts interfere with your raving.

As soon as I can prove that you hacked into my account I will see you in court.

I know you'll hate that, you'll have to see the Ten Commandments.

He hacked into WHAT account? I hope there was money involved, you know, with the Christmas season and all. And tell us how you PROVE it and take it to court.
We just last week had a credit card canceled and a new one issued because of hacking, so we were told, but the credit card co. took care of all that FOR us.
Please be sure and tell us how all this works out for you.

It touches my heart knowing that someone such as yourself can not afford the $100 fee to adopt an animal. I hope you do not own any animals as it cost $80-100 or more to have one spayed/neutered. Then you pay for shots, possibly grooming (depending on breed), yearly vet visits and sick visits. Then you have to contain your pet which may cost you some money. There's a lot more to owning a pet than just being able to afford to buy dog food.$100 is nothing compared to the time, effort, travel, gas, and work the VOLUNTEERS at the humane society put into taking care of these animals and does not touch the amount of money that goes into them. The adoption fee goes right back to caring for another animal. Maybe you should VOLUNTEER some of your time to the humane society and see for yourself.

If you cannot afford the 100.00 to adopt, how can you come up with the money in case of an emergency like poison from earing a plant or a snake-bite?
I took my cat to get his initial shots and dewormed and it cost me around 136.00 and I did not have him neutered with this trip. It cost me 8-12 dollars a week to feed him plus the litter cost when he comes in.
I am sure you could pick up a stray along the road or get one free from a careless pet owner. Volunteer your time and you will find out how much it cost to house them. They do have water and heat to keep the water from freezing so your donation of {$12.00?} was not all spent on a bag of food.
