I hope you are wrong. I hope DT is being refi'ed rather than foreclosed. Will know all soon enough.

It's to bad our county Officials can't see how bad it is to allow so much growth so fast with out proper study of the impact in will have on the area. But as the saying goes money talks and the Bull shlt walks. Our small town, I fear will soon be like Banner Elk and Blowing Rock. A play ground for the rich, with a gated community on every mountain-top. Say good bye to the way you use to live in this county and the way of life that people have known here for years and what has attracted so many for vacations and getaways.. And say hello to higher taxes, crowed roadways and expensive living and more crime.. What brought people here in the first place the peaceful living, beautiful mountains and clean air. With less crowds is going the way of the city dwellers. Not all growth is positive. But once again the greedy in this county has prevailed and the people that live here have allowed it. No one to blame here but ourselves.
The ones I feel really sorry for is the next generation of our children and grand children, that will not have the privilege of having what we have taken for granted for so many years, our wide open country living. Unspoiled mountain-tops. Etc.
My only hope is that these large scale developments fail miserably.
My question to you residents and county officials is what are all these new people going to do for work health care, and extra services and so on when they get here. Our county infrastructure is close to be over whelmed now. How about some common sense land management I think maybe the city dwellers and flat-landers should just remodel and rebuild their dirty cities first before making this small country town like Gatlinburg or Vero beach Florida or some other dirty city... Unless that is what all you want? But remember once itís all gone. itís gone for good. And this was the town that didnít want a Walmart
Why do you say this town didn't want a Walmart? Have you been listening to all that unfounded tongue wagging that got started by Burniston followers? Walmart never said they wanted to build; they just got some demographics together about the town and county. They do that all over the country. In the end, it is Walmarts decision. The stores in Boone, Elizabethton, West Jefferson, Johnson City, and Bristol would lose a certain percentage of their business if one came here. Duh.....

Unspoiled Mountain Tops, you gotta be joking!

You can't see them for the trash in the valley.

Too many treat this county as one large trash receptacle. I am not refering to outsiders either.

Back in 1997 thru 1999 a Wal-Mart researched and put a building application in to come to Mountain city/ Johnson county. There was a town meeting, a partition was circulated around and everything. Where were you?

The owners of stores like Michaelís and Cornets furniture, The ďeverything for a dollar storeĒ that was next to Harris Teeter, and I think the grocery stores, among a few others protested. Along with a few other problems the plan never went through. Wal-Mart ended up going to west Jefferson NC in 2000 because west Jefferson give them a tax break and allotted wal-mart a land grant to bring in the shopping giant tp their area. To Bad Mountain city/Johnson county didnít The good ol boys were only looking out for what they could get for them self Iím sure. What is really sad is most of the store that protested that Wal-Mart are now out of business. And Mountain city wants to build hundreds of homes in gated communities around Johnson county. Where are theses people going to work. In the tabacco fields.. oh yea them are all but gone too. Duh!

I simply love gated communities, they keep the riff raff out. The people wont have to work. They'll get their monthly government siphon and health care and will be mostly content. If they're not let them eat cake!

A bank owns the unsold property now. Banks are not in the real estate business that is why foreclosures sell like hotcakes.

I know the investors (banks) own the unsold property, but I'm curious about the folks that purchased lots. I'm wondering what they were promised as far as "extras" before they purchased.(gated community, club house, pools, boat slips at the lake, etc)

The investors in the Doe Mountain corporation will lose all of the equity in the development if and when it forecloses. The banks (creditors) will sell the property for the amount owed on the property. If the bank does not receive an acceptable bid, then the bank will retain ownership of the property. The amount owed on the property might be much less than the actual value of the property. The land owners will still retain title to their but of course no amenities.

Thanks for the information. I really think that it would be a lot of fun to design and build a lot of new developments that change the whole look of somewhere, and it becomes just a whole new place. butlerbuildersinc.com

This is just my opinion
Maybe youíre better off trying to renew some older developments in bigger cities that need it. Then come to this part of the woods we donít need more people here. You got to have people with money to buy your house and developments first. There are tons of houses in foreclosure. 43 house for sale between Larry Potters and rite aid alone. Besides once you ruin the scenery on the mountaintops and surrounding areas with buildings there is nothing left to come for. Plus most people here donít like outsiders. So selling places to people in Florida or PA, ETC is useless because they have a history of most leave in less than 2 years once they find there is no jobs, very high out of controlled crime rate, nothing to do here and so on and so on. Also you got to have a reason to bring people here to live and for them to move to this area. IE jobs, shopping or some kind of industry, Building a few houses does not create enough work to sustain a your changed community plans and not much chance you can get anyone to here to change anything to bring Big changes needed here. Build a factory or a Manufacturing plant and you will be talking a good thing for this community.
So good luck chuck. I'm afraid the only thing that changes here is that the garbage gets worst and the scenic lands are being defaced for there resources. I promise you it will only keep getting worst. You try to develop land here you will be like the rest of them all bankrupt and trying to get out.
