Get rid of him. Too much nepotism in the county to begin with. I found an old Kane article from the Post Gazzette.

No policy breach in hiring judge's daughter, Butler County officials say

Sunday, January 18, 2004
By Karen Kane, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Butler County officials said the hiring of a judge's daughter as a county employee does not appear to violate the county's nepotism policy.

Chief Clerk William S. O'Donnell and Solicitor Julie Graham said the nepotism policy states essentially that a county employee cannot directly supervise another county employee who is a family member.

Stephanie Yeager, of Butler, daughter of Common Pleas Judge Michael Yeager, was hired Jan. 8 at $12 an hour as a clerk for Butler City District Justice Pete Shaffer .

Graham said Stephanie Yeager may be a county employee, but she was hired by the courts, which operate separately from the rest of county government. Graham said that, technically, judicial hires do not need to meet the county's nepotism requirements.

Tom Holman, director of personnel for the county courts, agreed with Graham's assessment -- but he noted that whether the nepotism policy applies is a moot point, because the hiring would meet the policy's requirements anyway.

"Judge Yeager has no authority over Pete Shaffer. They're both elected officials. Both state employees," Holman said.

Shaffer was elected in November and took his seat this month. The post is new, having been split from the magisterial district that had included Butler and Butler Township.

Though an administrative assistant and one clerk were transferred to Shaffer's office from the Butler Township office of District Justice Kevin O'Donnell, there were two clerk positions to fill.

Holman said he had a "stack" of applicants for the jobs. The applications were forwarded to Shaffer. Shaffer said he interviewed about two dozen people and "hired the best."

He said he never spoke to Michael Yeager or any other county official about hiring Stephanie Yeager. He said there were other candidates who had "advocates" in county government, and none were hired.

"Stephanie has a college degree, which is something you don't always get in a clerk," Shaffer said. He also said his wife taught Yeager when she was a student "and recommended her highly."

The second clerk's position was filled by Karen Snow, of West Sunbury, on Jan. 5. She's earning the same salary as Stephanie Yeager

Homey, I disagree. Yeager is a civil law and family law judge, not criminal. Judge William R Shaffer, Yeagers son in law, handles criminal cases in the county along with Tim MCcune. Shaffer could no longer be trusted to handle family law. I do agree with you on voter apathy. It's what allows the nepotism to thrive.

If Shaffer couldn't be trusted to handle family court how can he be trusted to run a criminal court ? My dealings with the courthouse is once a year I trudge up there and get dog liscences so I must be lucky.

I agree with you totally, homey!
I also have little to do with the judicial system other than to pay my dog license fee or report for jury duty.
You're not lucky, you are a decent, law abiding ctizen.

Can you point me to a verifiable source that says Shaffer is Yeager's son-in-law?

Yes you can go to the county website and click deed records.

Here is from the Eagle Marraige license 11-03-07

William Shaffer and Stephanie Yeager, both of Butler Township

I also spoke with Karen Kane who wrote the above article. She confirms this as well. It is also common knowlege at the courthouse that Yeager hates Shaffer. I couldn't see why. His daughter's teacher's brother? Really?

How would you like to be at that Thanksgiving table?

I have known Yeager and his daughter Stephanie since the early 90's. They are good people and Michael Yeager is a straight shooting to the point of fairness man anyone will ever find. It's not like Stephanie Yeager is getting millions of dollars in contracts, it's a $12 an hour job people. It would be good to keep this man in his position and I am sure Stephanie will do an excellent job as well.

Stephanie does a horrible job. She is mean spirited and arrogant. Her 60 year old husband ,William R. Shaffer, is a common Please judge just like daddy. I guess there is something arousing about the smell of ben-gay and done's pills. Trust me there is more to it than just $12 an hour.

There is something fishy about this Judge Yeager. What do you know about him being disciplined by the Supreme Court for paying his wife from campaign funds??
