I was told today that the Butler Area School District is in so much debt that they may have to shut down the Junior High in a few years. They will make the Intermediate 7-9th grades and the Senior High 10-12th grades. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Education is the ignored step child of US society. The most important aspect of our future, and it gets crap. What we put into military and feeding the obese should go to education.

Butler area school district needs to improve on how the learning disabled students have been treated. The students need services and teachers that know how to treat all kids. I agree with Retired Teacher; Education is the ignored step child of US society. Well put and so true, but there are laws holding schools accountable. Our schools need more subsidy for special programs for our students, so this becomes a catch 22.

Its funny that with all the emphasis on staying active that there is no emphasis near as powerful for staying in school or going to college. It is even sadder that some of the oppurtunities I have had come only from my sisters participating in things like the all school musical, and not from emphasis on how fun it is from the school. They seriously need to rethink the scheduling and how unfair it is that the students who take band and ESP cannot take a language. Maybe if they improved in those areas more people would be willing to pay or fundraise for things like a new roof. Thank you REtired Teacher for voicing what everyone thinks but is afraid to say.

I agree 200% with you. The Learning Disabled student is the Ugly red headed step child of the Educational government. Butler Area school District Refuses to educate Learning Disabled kids. I wonder what the "Law" would have to say about this. If you put up advocacy for your Learning Disabled Child, the use attacking your family tactics to cover up what they are and are not doing for the Learning Disabled Student. They try every trick in the book. Butler has its own law. It is called avoid responsponsibility to the Learning Disabled Student and retaliate. This school sends these kids away so they don't have to do it. Then when the kid goes to approved private school, Butler Area School District gets reimbursed by the state, and the school district eliminates accountability for every learning disabled student whose education they trshed.

Anther problem in our community with finding advocates for our disabled students; They are suck ups to the school district. These so called advocates are more intimidated by the school district than parents are. I have seen them in action. It is pathetic. We as parents are given a list of agencies containing advocacy for our kids; alot of these places are worse than dealing with the school. The public school entities repell the accountability the law has incorporated and as a result the "special Education department staff spends time on covering their back side and your childen are left behind. Anyone want to start a parents group for our learning disabled children? Let me know. We all need to take a stand for our kids. "With Liberty and Justice for all"
