I would like to know other people's opinion of why so many people are dying from cancer.

It is not about smokers. How can a 3 year old have cancer? It can't be the air that he just breathed if his parents are alive.

What makes a dog get cancer?

People die of cancer before old age. Even the elderly die of cancer.

I have my opinion, but I would love to read others.

And by the way, please stay with the forum.

Please, sarcstic or nasty comments. Lets be kind and helpful.

"Cancer" has many forms, and yes, sadly a 3 year old can have it.

I do not know why or how. I just know that loving and appreciating and helping family and friends is the most important.

Just my opinion:
I'm convinced its in part to all these crazy additives and preservatives in food (so to sum it up.. Monsanto Company-they've just been named in over 50 cancer lawsuits). Just about everything in the stores nowadays is trying to be low-fat or seemingly healthy in some way by cutting calories or having a long shelf life, but they do this by pumping the foods (and especially beverages) with artificial sweeteners and chemical preservatives, some already known to cause cancer in lab test. When I shop, if I pick up something that contains high amounts of preservatives, aspartame, sucralose, or any other artificial sweetener it goes right back on the shelf. I understand that the FDA approves these substances but did they foresee it being consumed in about 80% of the food we see in the grocery store? This is exactly why I think more children (and people in general) are are getting cancer younger. These chemicals are being built up over their entire lives (even in the womb) and its affecting their bodies. Think about how many foods and children's snacks are sugar free or low calorie or can sit in the pantry for 3 wks without going bad.. sounds great until you think of the all the chemicals used to get them that way. Being a mother to a young and growing child Ive gotten very involved in what we put into our bodies. Read labels, learn chemical names and be proactive. Now with all this talk of GMO foods being in stores everywhere soon (not that they aren't now)I'm highly considering going full blown organic and only buying produce from known local farms. It's a bit financially straining and kind of headache in the super market(at first) but nothing is too much to try to keep my family healthy. I have a friend who's 3year old just went through a second chemo treatment. A good friend passed a few months ago from cancer, she was 22. We have enough carcinogenic chemicals in our environment, I really don't see the need to ingest them as well. Wether its by eating the chemically infused food directly, pumping our livestock full of chemicals, or messing with mother-nature and genetically modifying the organisms we eat, count me out.

I smoke, I drink, I stay up all hours, and my diet consists of mostly sugars and starches. I've lived that way for years, and I'm 65. I take no medications. I'm 5'6”, and weigh 125. I wake up every day with tons of energy and my kids cannot keep up with me. Retired and traveling. Life is great.

Scared Straight

I agree with you so much. What I don't get is why so many different types of cancer.

My nephew died of a Ewing cancer which he fought at the age of 16 and lost at the age of 21. Then my sister-in-law died of cancer in the pancreis. My neighbor died of lung cancer. She NEVER smoked. My Mother died not even a year ago. Cancer of the liver. She never drank.

What makes different types of cancers??

There must be more to it than that.

When I have a serious medical question on something as in depth as cancer, the Butler topix forum is the place that I turn to.

O.K. Lets just keep this forum writing about politics, religion, or let's just keep grinding this town into the ground.

Maybe we should write about educaion. By reading some of your forum, I see you lack that. Did you ever hear of a run-on sentence?

My post about my mom is true, 81 and smokes like a smokestack. Has rarely been sick a day in her life. Dad died of lung cancer and never even looked at a cigarette!

Back to the forum subject, I believe drug companies and oncologists have everything to do with a cure. Here is part an article over a web site I found.

Medical ethicists have for years questioned the wisdom of allowing oncologists to continue to earn the majority of their incomes from the sale of chemotherapy drugs, correctly pointing out that doing so creates a serious conflict of interest between patient welfare and oncologists’ desire to prescribe the drugs that they are going to make the most money from even when they are not what their patients needs. This includes over-prescribing drugs beyond the point in which they are effective.

How many cancer patients have died because their doctors succumbed to the lure of maximizing their profits and administered chemotherapy drugs inappropriately
