Could someone please tell what hell is going on with our travel teams. Why are all of the really good coaches leaving the homer heat program. 9u and 12u both gone. Why

I just took my son to the Illinois elite rhinos. They have their act together training, coaching, and leadership

We left the heat because we want to go to a first class group of people that teaches kids about character and how to be a leader. We have great coaching and a winning tradition. So if you are tired of being a part of a mediocre program please look up the prospects. You know how to find us.

Elite rhinos? I'm confused, how could u possibly know they offer such great training and leadership when they are, in fact, a first year program? Unless you are one of the guys that make money off the kids on these teams, wouldn't it be wiser to hold judgement until they have at least one season under their belts?

First off elite rhinos have the dome on sundays and a training center in frankfort. So where do the homer heat train at lockport high school gym. Have fun sox fan. Plus the rhinos 9u team is going to rock next year.

I'm actually not involved with either program. Just thought the comment about awesome coaches, etc was a funny one about a first year program. Btw, you know this a business for these guys right? They take a salary. You don't really think that they do this out of the kindness of their hearts, right?

I have watched for years homer glen has had great teams at 8 and 9. but when they turn 10 look out. They all leave to other travel teams like the Sparks, LW prospects, Magic, Top Tier. Nobody can win with a 90% or 80% home town player rule. Town teams then become feeder teams. Just a fact of life.

Because Homer Athletic Club is a recreational youth sports organization that offers travel baseball. It is not a travel program with standards and guidelines by which they select managers, coaches, and players. Nor is it a travel program by which there is any type of accountability of what is taught and/or what is learned.

I thought that is was pretty typical for teams to break up @ age 10/11 & that kids move around for different reasons Isn't this the same as other towns/organizations?

How is it typical for teams to break up at 10/11? Kids don't generally move teams, they want to play with their friends, parents move teams. Generally because most parents think that their kid is the next Derek Jeter, and this team is not letting him play shortstop. So they take him to a team where he is put in the proper position, according to the parent.

Gotcha. Figured this was a common issue in many towns, and not just in Homer.

Our son is in college now and his best sports years were with Homer Heat baseball and Homer Stallions football. Being young and having fun and winning wih his neighbors and friends from school was priceless. We did move to the Sparks at 13 because the coaching staff was breaking up mostly to focus on their younger children. We parted as friends and still keep in touch. One thing that obviously will never change is parents whose kids dont make the Heat being hateful and vindictive.

I see the rhino team at 13 is not having a great year so far going 0 for 8 so far . The homer heat had one of the best teams around at this level they should have stayed together

I have never been so disgusted until I heard the 12u Illinois Crush from Homer Glen use the N word when they were talking about the team they were going to play next at the Battle in the Brook tournament over the weekend. The team they were playing had 3 bi-racial boys on the team. Little did they know one of the boys moms was standing near by. This was the kids talking like that. The coaches were notified. I'm sure not much was done. They should have been removed from the tournament.

Lots of teams split after 12u but the Heat 13U A team I hear is doing well and has won 3 tournaments so far.
