Utility bills add to pressure

With the way everything is rising in cost, I am glad that I am single. Don't have to worry about no one but myself. If it comes down to having to live in a van again it will be no worries on me for I will not have a problem with it.
Set it up with a CB outfit like the last one I had when I lived in a van and I will be as happy as a baby on mommy's milk spicket. Yes, I could git a second job but life is too short as it is, especially at the age I am at now. |

I cannot feel sorry for someone with a sub-$700/month disability check consuming almost $190/month in electricity!
Turn off some appliances. I live in a rather large house and my electric bill is always under $90/month. Perhaps its because I have efficient appliances and I'm not home all day watching the tube, but people who have no money must adjust the lifestyle! |
I agree Old Black Joe, I have a family of 4 and our electric bill is never over $90.00, but like you said we're not home all day watching the tube, in the summer we don't have an air conditioner running, we open the doors, and every afternoon I hang my laundry out to dry

Power companies are businesses. I realize that is a shock for folks like the ones cited in the newspaper. Rising prices mean people have to economize. One obvious question flowing from this story is, what would the reporter and subjects have utilities do?
We do not have the complete story to make a judgement on this individuals electricity bill. You are very lucky you can afford efficient appliances for your large home. This individual probably has the same appliance they purchased 20 years back. I truly doubt earning sub-$700/month disability check they could afford new appliance. How old is their heating system? Do they have old windows and doors? Do they have medical equipment which requires electricity? Do you think life would be so simple for you on a sub-700/month disability check? |
Thank you! To these right wing pukes, disability checks mean this woman sits at home all day eating bonbons while she sucks on the government teat. You made a good point about the appliances maybe being outdated and not energy efficient, but it would never occur to these pigs that maybe she has to run an oxygen compressor 24/7 in order to breathe. You are right, we don't know her situation, but it is so much easier not to think and just be hateful. |
Uh huh. |
I see we are in complete agreement. The liberals still have their sense of entitlement, but when the power company throws the switch, startling reality will set in. A $700/month disability is not a total-permanent disability (unless the subject was a minimum wage worker prior to becoming disabled) so the subject should be able to perform some light tasks and increase income. The subject also must conserve electricity as they are not doing their finances, nor the environment, any favors by burning up $190/month in electrons. |
ever the clever wordsmith. Strive to do better than call folks names. |
You are asking moot questions. If cash is that tight then the subject must adapt to the current economic conditions. If a disability is involved then there are plenty of singlewides out there with wheelchair ramps leading to the front door. No single wide will consume $190/month in electricity. A dorm refrigerator costs $100 at Wal-mart, that will suffice for a single person. I 13" TV is suitable to watch the gargage on the tube. Hand wash and hang dry the clothes. No need for a hair dryer if you're disabled. End of discussion. |
II will be happy to end the discuss if you will answer these moot questions: 1) Do you know the complete story to make a judgment on this individuals electricity bill? 2) Please tell me on $700/month disability check where they are to get the deposit to rent this singlewide and purchase a dorm refrigerator? You have stated that if a person is disabled they do not need a hair dryer or care about themselves. Because a person is disabled does not mean they a substandard individual to you. I think this a very selfish/arrogant comment. I’m sure that you are a very educated individual with a good income. Please, some people have not had the opportunity in life to get a good education. They worked and took care of their family to the best of their ability. |

Welcome to the ACT’s gross exaggeration hysteria story of the day complete with ‘victim’. While I truly feel for the person in the story and wish them the very best in hoping they get relief from their bill, a quick check to your power companies web site such as www.progress-energy.com will give you complete usage and cost statistics on your power usage. I found that my bill was $6 less than for the same period than last year and that if my bill was higher it was because I used more power and it was usually tied to the temperature outside. It is a good tool to manage and understand your power usage and how to cut your bill. Maybe those funny curly light bulbs do work!

Perhaps she was a stay at home mom until her kids were in school. Women who stayed at home to raise their children earned much less in their lifetime than those that didn't. That could be why her disability (possibly permenant) check is so low. Too bad your brain isn't as smart as your a**. |

I bet that Obama fratboy never did anything wrong, huh? Is the drunken fratboy W what you libs discuss at Drinking Liberally? |
We cause the energy shortage because of our greed and extravagance and getting to a livable and affordable solution will require many changes of attitude, lifestyle, and ability to adjust.
There will be human engineering, loss of personal freedoms, and respect for other human citizens of this world. Can be done but we must be willing. |

Good afternoon LB. hope you are having a good day. Things at the office is quite today and I have finally caught up and cleared my desk after the usual full moon rush the first of the week. Boss is in court all day. Looking forward to a long weekend. Have a great day. |

Everything is going up. Now the city is increasing our water fees BECAUSE WE CONSERVED!(But never fear, at least we do have a drum circle at pritchard park.)
And groceries are going up because transportation costs are going up because the environmentalists don't want us drilling for oil where we have it. These socialists/porgressives/ librals are going to take all that the hardworking citizens make. What happens when our backs give out from succumbing to the pressure of carrying so many of them? |
