I believe she should spend the rest of her life behind bars. She decided to drink and drive that decission took the life of a young man that had just began to live his life. I hope she relieves that fateful decission every moment of the rest of her life. I have two children that ride 4-wheelers on the same road where this teen died. I pray every time they leave home for their safe return and knowing that there are people like her that decide drunk driving is ok scares me.

It's not a difficult choice to be UN-selfish, except
for a few.. If you make a choice that FORCES others
to DEAL with the consequences, then you have made a
VERY selfish choice. I would say that is the ROOT of
her problems. Now, a boy has paid for "the rest of
HIS life". Even she will feel better if she is
JUSTLY punished. Sinc FM

Mabey you should think twice about letting your kids take off down a ROAD where the drunk drivers are driving on the ROAD,which is where a car belongs and 4-wheelers don't.If this kids parents had not alowed him to break the law by being on the road, they probably wouldn't be mourning him now.

I agree with Real Parent. There are stickers all over the ATVs that state DO NOT RIDE ON ROAD. Sober or intoxicated a driver is not expecting ATV's on the road. It is a tragedy all the way around - two people both doing things they are not supposed to do and then it is ALL blamed on the ONE person.

Kids do stupid things, that doesn't excuse adults
from being responsible. When you are driving, you
SHOULD look out for ANY road hazard. The fact that
she was drunk probably altered her awareness. One
mistake led to another,(Domino effect). That's the
main reason drinking and driving are forbidden..

That is another reason they have WARNING STICKERS all over four wheelers TO STAY off THE HIGHWAY.

Strude, who was MORE in the wrong? A kid out for
a joy ride on his four-wheeler or an adult driving
while intoxicated? Sure, you're NOT supposed to
ride your four wheeler on the roadway, but that's
no excuse to mow the four-wheeler down! Do you
suppose if she'd been sober the accident would have
happened? If it had been a kid crossing the road
on foot would it have made any difference?? Or a
child on a bicycle? I think, maybe her impairment
made a huge difference in her perception. SG

I think TWO wrongs caused this. 4 wheeler rider was breaking the law and so was the driver under the influence. Does that change anything? No.
I am all for kids having fun but when it gets to this point, it is a different story.
I have had many people complain to me about almost hitting the riders when they are driving on the main road well over the speed limit. I don’t know if there is a solution if the parents of the riders don’t supervise them and tell them they can’t ride on the road. I don't agree with drinking and driving either.

First of all, Stride, I don't know where in the heck
you got your information, but the kid on the four
wheeler was NOT, I repeat, NOT even on the highway!
The drunk lady ran OFF the road and hit him. I have
read the report. Obviously, she was seeing double
or was passing out at the time. You should get your
facts straight before you attack or defend someone.

I don't know where you get your information either. This is going to the Grand Jury - you either have to be @ the District Attorney's Office, police department or issued a Subpoena Request for that report.

More children have been admitted to the hospital for medical care this year than ever before because of injuries caused by ATVs. Folks we can
fix this ourselves by monitoring our kids and protecting them better or the legislators will pass a ton of laws that we don’t want or need to try to get the job done. But something has to and will change because the politicians are not going to sit by while this problem continues to grow. All we are doing by not getting it done ourselves is setting up future problems that we’ll have to live with.

Some kids are too small and young to be on LARGE 4
wheelers. The areas they ride must also be carefully chosen, but as with any "power" toy there
are risks. Kids have broken necks diving into
swimming pools too. The discipline is key. Never
just "turn a kid loose" with any potentially danger-
ous sport or activity, until proper training or
disciplines have been applied. I can't believe how
some parents will just buy a horse or some dangerous
toy and "turn a kid loose" on it... GG
ps. I don't think the kid, in this case, did ANYthing wrong..

The ATV Safety Institutes Golden Rules:

1. Always wear a helmet and other protective gear.
2. Never ride on or near public roads - another vehicle could hit you.
3. Never ride under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
4. Never carry a passenger on a single-rider vehicle.
5. Ride an ATV that's right for your age.
6. Supervise riders younger than 16; ATVs are not toys.
7. Ride only on designated trails and at a safe speed.
