So far, only one expert was right

In a Sunday front-page story, "After 5 years in Iraq, plenty of war fatigue but no end in sight," the accompanying deck headline states, "Experts say U.S. is likely only at midpoint of its involvement." I ...

No, Barbara. Those cute little bunnies purchased for Easter do not have to end up in animal shelters.
Rabbits are edible.
There are plenty of 400 pound welfare recipients claiming their families aren't getting enough to eat. Donate the damn rabbits to them.

PP-thank you for printing the informed opinions of those that are against the war. They are correct for so many reasons.

First, Bush lied and people died. He doctored documents to convince the world that Saddam had WMD's. He did not. The real reason we went into Iraq was for oil. Now Bush and his buddies at Halliburton are laughing all the way to the bank.

Second, war is never the answer. We should all learn from Ghandi himself. We must always reject violence as he did and return violence with love. All we have to do is reach out to our enemies and their anger, which we caused, will subside. We must make love, not war.

Third, it is not right that so many of our victims here at home must suffer. We can take all of the money spent on war and build more schools, supply food and shelter for all, provide universal healthcare, and give tax cuts to the working families in addition to earned income tax credits for those at the bottom. The poor among us should not have to pay for anything while the wealthy live off of their hard work

A loving and just society will do all I suggest, and more.

It's not so much that 'Bush lied,' it's that we didn't believe him and we turned out to be right. Half the US population did not support this adventure; we were fairly up front about it also. For this, I would add, we were routinely screamed at, threatened and called traitors--if not by Mr. Bush directly, then by his supporters and surrogates.

This war was staged for the profit and aggrandizement of the american Right, and its status at this point is not the fault of the non-righties in the audience for failing to cheer loud enough.

I wonder if the Trinity United Church of Christ is a tax-exempt entity. Isn’t it illegal for a tax exempt entity to be politically active? Specifically illegal to endorse or promote a particular candidate?

The two Ill-informed letter writers that blasts the Bush administration for the poor economy are either VERY biased DFL'ers or totally uninformed on the real causes of our present economic slowdown. There's two main causes-first and MOST important is the housing scandal. The actual culprits arein the mortgage lending industry, NOT the Bush administration. If you want to prosicute anyone its the people that thought up ARM mortgages. Also the people that LIED about their finances to get into these houses.
If Bush would would have stopped them years ago (ARM mortgages with 0 down) he would have been cruxified by the DFL for trying to keep "the poor" down. They would of had a field-day with that issue.
Second cause-High oil prices, the laws supply and demand enter into this one.
Supply has hampered and stopped in many cases in the last decade. No drilling in ANWAR,the gulf, off the west coast to name a few.
Environmentalist AKA democrats slowed drilling and the building of new refineries.
The Chinese economy also played a role in the shortage of oil. We had better get started now on incresing supply because as their economy gets stronger they will put more pressure on the world supply.

I love liberals they have such imaginations. 1/2 the country opposed the war. Actually polls at the start of the war were about 75% in favor. It wasn't until a couple months in when that started changing. No WMD's - there have been tons found - of course not the smoking gun that the media wanted. Try talking to soldiers they can tell you what they found. The war was for profit of the right. My guess is the idiot is refering to Cheany and Halliburton (because that is the scripted lib line) however the truth was discovered months ago that dems have more money in Halliburton than Reps. In fact Hillary did until someone pointed it out and she claimed she didnt know any wonder why she is refusing to turn over her tax returns like every other candidate has.

Simply amazing those who said nothing while we bombed innocent civilans in Kosovo with anti personal bombs on a country that was NO threat to the US. Now these same people say "war is not the answer" Sounds just a bit too hypocritical.

Don't let Marc Rich off the hook either, here is a guy that got a 48 million tax cut while abusing the UN Oil for food in Iraq. The millon dollar donation to the Hillary Senate campaign was a PAY OFF no matter what Bill or Hillary say.

Honest Liberal,

You present some interesting points but lack a few key ingredients in each.

First was the war in Iraq for oil? It sure may have but don't forget we want the oil so that you and the multitude of others can get into your Toyota Trundra's or Ford Expeditions every night and drive 30 miles home. If the U.S. Consumer had an insatiable appetite for jungle vine I bet the military would be in Africa making sure we had a ready supply. So don't sit there and say the war was for oil without looking in the mirror and saying "the war was for my oil."

As for war never being the answer. Humans by nature are territorial creatures and when one territorial creature meets another conflict breaks out. Was war necessary in this case? Probably not but I prefer the approach of Colin Powell, war is used as a last resort and only after diplomacy has failed.

As for taking the money and building more schools, when will you have enough money? If we'd take the money that this government wastes here at home I think we could build 100 times the schools we could with the money we spent in Iraq.

To close I have two points. First, do I support the war in Iraq? NO! but I also don't support a full withdrawal either. An Iran/Iraq coalition scars me and if we pull out too soon that's what we'll have.

And second until we crub our consumption of oil wars with Iraq will occur. So before you start accussing others take a look in the mirror because you share blame in starting this war.
That is right

Anyone who wants to talk about oil...

Get out your wallets and stand back if we pull out of Iraq before we attain our goals. Once the Iranians conquer Iraq they will go after the Saudi oil fields and then our gas will go to $10.00 a gallon within a year.

Yes, Hans Blix was right...just right of Stalin. Blix should have been inprisoned for conspiracy in his false testimony and collusion with Sadam. As an FYI, at least one nuke was traced from Kabal to the U.S. during Sadam's reign according to computer data captured when the head of nuclear program in Pakistan was captured in an international security sting. I'm sure you never read about that in the newspapers or heard about it on network news. Gee, I wonder why?

The only people who are biting on the 'Blix the Hero' propaganda are those who don't believe there are evil people trying to annihilate us. Perhaps the liberal 'apologists' actually believe we deserve it, so agree???

Ah how quiet are the liberals as Iran HANGS it's gay population, treat women like dirt and impose strict moral laws that would make the most conservative right wing preacher in this county blush.

Liberals ALWAYS speak out their perceived injustice around the world but their silence to real injustice in the world is really an endorsement. How shameful!

One more thing, does it seem like the Pioneer Press rather then be a neutral observer and reporter of the news is really pushing a personal political agenda?

New York Times was accussed of "selling" the Iraq war, but isn't actively "selling" the anitwar message just as bad for a "NEWS" organization?
