I'll be glad to see someone stand up to 'King Girdler!' Ever since he took office, he has turned the mayor's position into a dictatorship. It is very apparent that he doesn't care what any law says. He'll do whatever he wants.

I don't know him personally; his outburst with the group that wants to look at city-county gov't. certainly got my attention. I live out in the county and work in a different town. I can tell you that most of the people I talk to do not like him based uponnwhat they read or hear of him. He takes the Somerset dominance thing too far. If those of us in the county and in other surrounding towns don't come to Somerset, but go to Richmond or Lexington or Danville to shop, then Somerset will not be as vital as he thinks it is. I'd say he is in his last term. He's ticked off too many business owners.

I agree, but I worry there is no one in the city politically strong enough to run and defeat the current Mayor. Sadly, Somerset and the rest of the area is stuck with the Mayor for years to come.

When is the next election? Can't wait to get :King Girdler" out of office. Of course, people of Somerset voted him back in last time, knowing what a dictator he is. So who knows, they may do it again. Same goes for the council members that bow to the King.

O.K., I'll try to give a synopsis:
A local farmer, yes a winery is considered a farm, wants to sell his wares at the farmers market.
The ABC commish and City attorney gives him the O.K. via e-mail.
He is notified by the commish that the Mayor wants to see him.
The mayor orders him not to participate in the farmers market and if he does he will be arrested.
The mayor orders him out of his office.
The farmer says he will be at the farmers market.

This was all posted earlier but was deleted by someone.

Wow, that sucks. Wonder why the mayor is vetoing the city attorney and ABC commissioner?

And why is it being deleted? Doesn't even mention anyone by name.

Wonder how that works with the licensing? Does a winery license say you have to sell on premises?

The city could still probably hand out a temporary license allowing them to sell at the Farmers Market if not. Shame if the mayor is against this idea, for whatever reason. Apparently it's legal, city attorney and ABC commissioner would know.

maybe he should stick one those "Kentucky proud signs" in front of his booth and sell as home grown produce. I bet Richie farmer would have let him.

I suppose that gridler is going on the premise that it does not fall under the "Kentucky Proud" scenario.

Just a guess but, I would think the City might be liable if someone purchases a bottle and cracks that sucker open before leaving the Farmers Market. Much the same as if a bar continues to serve a drunken customer and he then tries to drive home.
