Hey MODS:

Here's the article in the local paper.

http://somerset-kentucky.com/newslive/x166488...

This article doesn't break any rules of Topix, neither does the discussion of it.

Why do you keep deleting it? It's a newspaper article. Isn't the purpose of Topix to discuss news?

Probably because people who know nothing keep throwing random names out there.

I really do agree! But I'm not sure which I'm more ashamed of. The paper that would print something like this or the person who's stomping his feet all over the strings like a little boy because he gets scolded for putting a persons name on here with no proof of who that rag of a paper is talking about. When a persons name shows up on here then so does the rumor mill whether it's truth or lies. I don't know about you, but childish people are a waste of my time. So is our newspaper. Which should we be more ashamed of? That's a hard call to make.

The paper prints what and when the buyers of pages desires...and at this point in time...it is the United Group. Lb Schmidt and associates has sucked in another group to spend tax dollars and to listen to his BS. he couldn't sell this bill of crap in his home county, but these local Yahoos bought into the scheme, "listen I will empower you and I will lead".
Such a waste of money and time. But it helps Bill keep the paper open.
Should have suspected something when Schmidt wasn't able to lure commercial air service back to Somerset... after two studies or surveys and a lot of money. Really a joke...how much has this guy taken from the taxpayers of this county, because of the idiots we have elected. He knows when he has landed in the midst of a bunch of suckers.

He has made a living off suckers, he doesnt have to work he just feeds off the people that will go along with this crap, sure the county would be behind it, they are broke and will look at any avenue to find money to blow, the City has (supposely) plenty of money that has been saved through past Mayors and now all of a sudden these guys want a piece of the pie, if they want it so bad let them move into the city and pay taxes like a bunch of Somerset citizens have for years

Don't know about the city having plenty of money...but at least the councilors and girdler did their homework.... and who in their right mind would be spending money for embracing the concept that the county needs to take control of the city of Somerset and all of the resources of the city. Not me... a long time citizen and taxpayer of the city. Dumb..dumb and double dumb act by the magistrates. I will be recruiting and supporting someone to replace our magistrate.

The unified joke is one thing Girdler and his opposition on council can agree on.

This is how public records work at Somerset City hall, now that Girdler is in charge. You request them at City Clerks office (which is correct). Clerk has to send the request to City's Lawyer and based on if Girdler wants you to have them or not, he will say. The fine for not giving public record information is only 100 bucks. Maybe a stern note from the Attorney Generals office and a little bad publicity. Him saying in the paper today that he has nothing to do with those records is ludicrous, he decides on which records will be given and which ones not to give. He is very much involved. Eventually he has to give them to you, it just may take a while longer than the 10 days. Only real way to get them is have a lawyer file a request for them to begin with. In the day the City Clerk handled all request and it is his job as custodian of the records, every mayor in the past has let him handle that on his own till now.

Why would the CU Group even need the cities' financial records? Hasn't the Council and mayor already told them to get lost?
And why would they need to file a FOIA if the information is already available on the city website?
The Mayor brings up an excellent point...perhaps the City should file its own FOIA request asking the CU Group to reveal who belongs to their organization and where ALL the money to finance the study is coming from.

You are right he should file for it. Not all the records they are going to need is on the website, thats ridiculous

What records do you think "they" need? Also if Somerset is not going to participate why would "they" even need the city records. Seems to me there must be an ulterior motive.

Possibly the voters could override the dictator of a mayor and his court.

The "unified" government is never going to happen in a million years. There's nothing in it for Somerset residents.

Anyone can get city records, you just have to fill out the paperwork. Even though the city isn't participating doesn't mean they don't need some information. I am completely against Unified Government but they have a right to public records and the City has a right to know the leaders of this group and the members.

Those in the city council are right; the people don't want a unified government. I haven't spoken to anyone in either the city or the county that thinks this is a good idea. In fact, everyone seems to agree that it is a naked power grab by the county.

The mayor is winning support due to his opposition of this.
