Your knowledge of the business is lacking, metusmetu.... You're not even in the ballpark.
They've probably went up a bit since I used to work in the business, but that's what they used to cost,...I ought to know, I wrote the checks for the delivery drivers! I was in another state then to, that might make a difference..wasn't to long ago 30pks. were selling for 15.99. Not here though, you guys haven't had beer for 80 years....

Exactly. Alcohol being available in restaurants and convenience store has changed the town very little if any and package stores won't either.

There are no new drinkers in Somerset. Now they just don't have to go so far to get it. Its here . It should have been here for years .

Get used to it

No way it will be open 3/1. It will be late March or early April. I know one of the contractors. The building won't be finished until around 3/15.
Then what is the "count down clock" for???????! It was obviously put up by the owner, and there's an online employment application there also........

They have to buy apples or first stop in order to come to Somerset and the licenses are attached to the properties. They can only be located on the licensed properties.

What's to keep them from opening a small grocery store, and start selling beer (no limit on those licenses I'm told), and then putting in an app for pkg. liquor sales, when Girdler gets more more of those licenses,......which he will... If you go strictly by the way the law is written (ABC), Somerset qualifies for 28 pkg. liquor licenses. This is Somerset, Ky., what "sense" does it make for ABC to be the ones who pick an choose who gets those licenses here? It makes NO SENSE that is what, NONE! Strange thing about those licenses is, ABC only saw fit to approve "5" licenses for this area, what is up with that?! Somerset is the "HUB" for several miles around, I even know of people from Tennesee who drive here to do their shopping, like at Lowe's etc.! Where do think all of that traffic on 27 & 914 comes from (?), all of those vehicles do not live here, that's for sure!

Gas was once 25 cents per gallon. Maybe when Busch Light 30 packs costs $10.
They cost $16.65 each now. I know that for a fact.
Also, a pony keg will cost probably you around $60-$70 plus deposits. Add to that the cost of your fridge, CO2 tank and other accessories for your in-home draft system.
It has just over 84 beers in it. You can buy three 30 packs of a premium beer around $65-$70.
When you figure draft beer has a 60 days life cycle from the day it is brewed, and will oftentimes have less than 30 days of shelf life on it when sold at retail, it's not cheaper and/or better to buy draft instead of package.

The price on Busch I stated was from around the year 2000. At the price you're saying, means Kroger's is only making $1.34 profit, if that. Hardly seems worth it.
I realize it's not much different in price to go with a "draft system", but at least you don't have to mess with the cans, and boxes. One can also get the "hand pump" for the smaller kegs, and bypass the CO2. Kegs also work well for parties, etc., at least you don't have to clean up a yard full of beer cans, and bottles the next day.

I don't know, I lived in Richmond for years and went to Liquor World often. Pretty nice store. Not only do they have row upon row of alcohol you won't find at Rite-Aid, but they also had all kinds of grocery products you couldn't find at Kroger.
It's a joke that we only got 5 licenses. They need to do away with the quota system, or base the town's quota on the number of people in the county.
In the early 1980's when Pikeville voted wet the city was alloted the same number of liquor licenses that Pike Co. would have gotten if they had gone wet. Pikeville was a city of 6,000 people at that time and would have gotten 36 liquor licenses but the city Alcoholic Beverage Control Administrator limited the number of licenses to 13.

They recently changed that back around 2000 I believe and if a city in a dry county votes wet then it gets the number of liquor licenses based on its population and not the county's so that is probably the reason that Somerset only got 5 liquor licenses. Pikeville has a much smaller population than Somerset but due to the change in the way the ABC board allots liquor licenses now caused Somerset to get fewer liquor licenses than they would have gotten at one time.

State ABC is now telling they have to hold Somerset liquor license applications due to possible pending litigation. At least their attorneys are claiming that in Frankfort.

Where are you getting your information? This does not sound reasonable at all.
There is no way the state (or any other agency) would give out licenses or permits, then sit around and hold them up just to wait and see "if someone files suit". If a suit has been filed, that would be another matter. I don't think a suit has been filed yet, just another threat from someone who puts their mouth in gear before engaging brain (which I'm doing if a suit has already been legally filed).

This is in the article in paper today.

The city also filed a complaint in Pulaski Circuit Court against the state ABC and Tony Dehner in his official capacity as acting commission and distilled spirits administrator, arguing against the quota of five licenses set by the state.

Is filing a complaint the same thing as filing a suit?
I sure hope the state gets burned on this one.

I believe it is legal foreplay.

the first document filed with the court (actually with the County Clerk or Clerk of the Court) by a person or entity claiming legal rights against another. The party filing the complaint is usually called the plaintiff and the party against whom the complaint is filed is called the defendant or defendants. Complaints are pleadings and must be drafted carefully (usually by an attorney) to properly state the factual as well as legal basis for the claim, although some states have approved complaint forms which can be filled in by an individual.
