I hope the family goes after the employee and the employer Someone really needs to kick all the workers ass that hurt this man and others they should be ashamed of theirselfs. I feel for the man and the family, last year around this same time my brother was just dropped off at the ER n louisville from a residental home in somerset due to they just did not want to have to take care of him any more, they sad thing was his caseworker was involved with the dumpping she would not even tell the family where he was. The only good thing that came out of my brother being dumped is he is now in a facility that really cares for him and he has inproved so much since he has been at the new facility. Iv hope someone from this mans family see this PLEASE DONT GIVE UP AND MAKE SURE YOU MAKE THEM PAY. I am not sure what is wrong with the facilitys in sommerset it sounds like they really dont care who they hire all they want to do is make sure that they get the money from the state MAYBE IF THEY PAY THEIR HELP BETTER THEY WILL GET QUILIFIED PEOPLE THAT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND PEOPLE THAT REALLY CARE ABOUT THEIR JOB AND THE CLIENTS.

Nag, Nag, Nag is mostly what you see from family members of mentally challenged people that usually don't even come around much unless they think they can get some money or some glory. No, this worker shouldn't have done what is alleged if he did it. But not all workers are bad either like some people would like to make them sound. And some of the clients would just the same rape, choke, bite you to the bone or stab a staff as to look at them if given the chance. Here's an idea for you, instead of putting your "loved one" in another home why not one of the family members take care of him for a while. I don't believe he was dumped as you say, there is more to this story than what you are telling I'm sure. There is also other help out there to keep them at home. Although I have worked many years with the mentally challenged and to some myself and other staff have been all the family they feel they have and I love them dearly, I have no pity what so ever for people that have children and place them in homes or institutions or get them taken away from them and placed due to family members abuse, neglect, molestation etc. And yes I have seen many, many of those cases. Which by the way one of the above reasons is the only reason I have ever known of for any family to not be notified of every thing going on with a client. It is apparent if you all weren't notified that none of you are his guardian for some reason because the law requires the guardian to be notified. We had a child with both mental and physical injuries in our family that we all felt lucky to have for 32 years, whenever their family needed help the rest of us stepped up. So if Somerset is doing such a bad job as you say, maybe you parents and or siblings need to get off your high horses and step up to the plate a little more. It's fine to be outraged with a worker that is proven guilty of a crime but not to keep lumping the whole bunch as one.

Well said "sick of BS"!!!!! I too have worked in this field and have seen people with MR brought in with lots of family members ( living within miles of where the MR person lives) and they never darken the door to come visit them or call to talk or just check on them, but you let something like this happen (yes what this worker did was wrong in every sense of the word) and the so called "loving family members" will jump on this like a duck on a june-bug yelling "SUE" because they see dollar signs. I know there are family members that either get too old to care for a MR family member or the Mr person gets aggressive enough that they can't handle them and they have no other choice but to put them where they can get help but on the other hand I have seen them put in these companys simple because they don't want to fool with them, disagree if you want to but it sure as heck happens.

What about the employee at Independent Opportunities that has made headlines of drug dealing with 3 clients in the vehicle, driving those clients to a drug dealers residence to pick up drugs. Pulaski County is a drug haven and now even more so the residence of these facilities are in danger by the druggies that work in these facilities. Drug test all staff, management in Oakwood and all Independent Living facilties and found out the trueth how many staff are in fact using illegal drugs.

I know someone who works at caky now who was fired from speedway for stealing a large amount of money. She also lied to people about their winning lottery tix and cashed them in at the end of the nite. She has a drug problem too. But they did a background check on her and bc it was right after she got fired nothing was on it.
