They annexed part of east 80 just so a place can sell beer, three voted against it, what surprised me is there is a preacher on there and a deacon that voted to annex it. Something is wrong with that in my opinion, don't profess to be something if you are not. Don't tell people you are against sell of booze in our city and then vote to annex more places that are in the county to be able to sell it.

They need to annex on down to the Speedway with the Wendys or what used to be the B.P. On 27.

Doesn't Somerset own the property on Hwy461, where all the factories are located?
Also if the expansion could start including property from pump house road (top of Sugar Hill/HWY80) back to HWY80 near E.Somerset Baptist Church, that would increase the population of Somerset.
Just a thought,........

Are they hiring extra law enforcement to patrol all of this annexed road?

Annexing for the sake of selling alcohol is ridiculous. If it were for other reasons i'd be ok with it. I'm surprised that people don't grumble about the increase in home owners insurance. If you're more than 5 miles from a station or substation or volunteer station your insurance goes up dramatically.

Nothing. These are corridor annexations, meaning no property owners are being annexed unless they ask to be.

So no home owners will see their insurance increase. If they chose to be annexed into the city their insurance would probably decrease, being as they would then have police/fire protection.

Of course the city should allow businesses on the outskirts to be annexed into the city. Business owners want to sell beer, the city wants the taxes that come from the business.

People against alcohol sales are going to cry about it, but ultimately as the election proved their voices don't matter. They held back Somerset/Pulaski county long enough!
Thanks

Thanks BM for setting them str8, i was going to say the same thing, these "businesses" are requesting to be annex. into the city. I wish people would know the facts before they go spouting off at the mouth!

I don't live inside the City Limita, but City Fire services me and my home owners insurance is cheaper.
Volunteer fire Department could be 7 to 12 miles.
State HWY 80, 914 and 27 are patroled by State, County and City.
No extra Charge. Better Police protection than before.
Best of my memeory, I don't drink alcohol drinks.

Before long Somerset will have to run utilities to these places, who will pays the millions of dollars it will take to get water, sewer and gas to these places, also all the extra it will take for fire, police and garbage, these services aren't free, someone will have to pay.

Ideally, not only will the businesses who pay tax to the city help pay for the increased utility costs, but also once homeowners see the advantages to annexation into the city they too will choose to join.

It is how a city grows.

Who is paying for those 10 Commandments fiasco lawsuits again?

The idea would be to annex places that already have the utilities, not running up roads just to pick up a couple of stores, some of these places that have already been annexed would cost millions alone just to run utilities to, there should have been a study done and the places that already utilities in place would be annexed first, that way it would be a win/win for everyone.

What are the advantages of being annexed into the city, another tax bill?

The City should have started at their boundaries and started annexing, North, South,East and west, instead of annexing a section of road for one business, which will never pay for itself.

One question for you.....how do you think a city grows?
