Now that the children are out of school is there a way we can get them involved with cleaning up Dolton? Is it too much to ask if the Block Clubs could be involved in this? We have plenty of young adults here in Dolton that stand on the corners and talk to their friends and then they throw candy wrappers on the lawns, sidewalks and streets--TO LOOK COOL TO THEIR FRIENDS! Also, keep the dogs off peoples lawns and if you have unwanted cats or dogs take them to Animal Welfare instead of letting them run the streets until they get run over! Time for change folks, let us show the officials we care about Dolton.

You think someone cares about Dolton LOOK AROUND. The people who got elected don't care becase it wouldn't look like this. What every that building up on 142nt street and Chicago RD. is a joke. I here Dolton owns it! Why are the police all over with those place Mr. Ricky's owns. Is the people of Dolton paying for this? ALL THE BROKEN GLASS ALL OVER TOWN. WE NEEDED THE PEOPLE OF DOLTON SAY ENOUGHT IS ENOUGHT THE BARS HAVE TO GO. COST MORE FOR THEM TO BE HERE THAN DOLTON GET BACK!!!! IF WE GET ANYTHING MAYBE THE MAYOR GET IT!!!

Driving into town the other day to go to the Dolton Post Office, I saw the old Comcast building. It looks disgusting, and all the trash laying around the curbs by the Dolton Mall. The Currency Exchange is now closed at 6pm on Saturday nights, why is that? The Mayor needs to start a commission pertaining to the streets -- why not get the young people involved. They like to be out to all hours of the day and night. Yes, it would be Dolton Community Service, but if they put in so many hours per month cleaning (picking up trash, sweeping all of the glass in front of residents homes and in the alleys), reward them with a party right before school starts or even let it go to Halloween. Then, have a DJ at the old Comcast building (make it a center for the boys and girls of Dolton), serve them pizzas or something, give out prizes (t-shirts, caps, sweatshirts...). The prizes could be the villages colors (light blue with dark blue lettering). Start a slogan contest, have it end before the party date and have the slogan printed on the items. An idea, Dolton Pride, with a small American flag/Dolton flag, then Mayor Ronnie C. Lewis small print on each item. This way the kids that did not win could still purchase these things at the village hall (not alot of money $5.00 -$7.00 each). Then put the money in a fund for the kids for Summer 2010 Clean-Up, to continue. This could be a year round project if someone could set aside time to work with Our Future Doltonites.

I am a Dolton resident. The drug dealers & street gang(4 corner hustler) have taken over my neighborhood. The police know! they know all the gang members. The so called leader is aledgely related to the chief of police! The arrest are slow! I know the wheels of justice turn slow, but i think evalution wheels turn faster! They walk the streets of Dolton as if they own it! There have been several gang fights in Dolton in the past year. the so called leader was behind a few of them. I see so much going on on the streets, but that wont stant up in court. I have no proff that the drug deals & burglaries are being comitted by these gang members. All the other law enforcement departments in the south suburbs, County Sheriff, & State police laugh at the Dolton PD. The chief of police in Dolton is incompetent. He was appointed by the late mayor. Nepitisum doesn't always get quality people. Law enforcement needs to come down hard on the gangs! Put them in jail & leave them there! They want to go to jail, why else would they committ crimes.

Someone suggested at a Village meeting a while back, to have the youth involved and pay them a small nominal fee for cutting grass and cleaning around the vacant areas. However, the mayor immediately shut it down...because the village would be liable for any type of mishap/mayhem. If one of those teens gets hurt cleaning/care-taking something....LAWSUIT! Ohhh, the parents would be so happy to scream....WE SUING! Another nuisance lawsuit paid out. I can clearly understand where the mayor is coming from and I adamantly agree with him on that!!!

Futhermore, these kids are in the least bit interested in cleaning anything, when they are the ones throwing the trash and broken glass on the grounds anyway. I'm a living witness to watch them all during the summer, constantly coming out of my house reprimanding them, and send them away from loitering and littering around my home!

SAd to say but I think your right. So many things happen and we don't know about them for weeks. They say go to the village meeting and tell them. Then you have to give you address and name. That great because then they know who we are but we don't know who they are!
And they act like there is no crime in Dolton. yea right it all in are minds. If they got rid of Fox and Robert Shaw Maybe they could clean up Dolton. But I guess Mayor Lewis is not his own person he has ties with passed. To bad I thought he would step up but it not happening.

I'm almost sick to my stomach...everybody want to get rid of this mayor, elect that mayor...complain, whinte, and more complain. Movement starts from the bottom down, change does not come from the top. If some of these bloggers would get off of their lazy judgmental asses and walk outside and ask the four kids in front of your house to help you sweep the curbs on your block, they would do it for kool aid! trust me, I've done it before...and it works (not for everybody, but its a lot easier to ask people to help you complete a task already started, be a leader, not a dick eater'

Oh, don't like the mayor? go to the village board meeting and complain, start a petition. don't like the people at mr. rickeys and secrets, start a picket line... I bet if i called all of the people on this site and said meet me outside of city hall next village board meeting with your picket signs in hand, less than 10% of the people with the most complaints would show up.

All of the things that happen in this town can be attributed to one single thing: Low Voter Turnout!

WE live in a town with about 25000 eligible voters and less than 3000 people came out and voted this last election.

2000 people voted your current mayor into office.

If we can focus less on blaming each other for the problem and look at the ways that the man (or woman) in the mirror can do his (or her) part..

stop typing and go to hell

Well i quess you said your what you were thinking. Lot of people were afraid
of the pepole run up to them on the way to vote. And some people feel there vote don't count. This is what you get. A trustee for Mayor who sat by and voted for everything Mayor Shaw wanted. Did you ever get to talk at the village hall. What a joke all the employes are ask to or told to come. Look around and do a head count. See what do you think know! Wrong info 17,000 reg, voters and only 17% came out. Did you see all the empty houses.
there are even more now.

I moved from Dolton 3 years ago and I am so glad. The corruption and culture was disgusting. My family was totally mistreated by the Police Dept. and those people working for the City Hall were completely corrupt!!!! I had communication with both the Shaw brothers, the chief of police, down...and all of them were shady. There were only a few honest people...and they were so afraid of losing their jobs or being singled out that they just turned a blind eye to the stinkin corruption of Dolton....and I lived there for over 11 years.

Well you all have valid points, but the blamee does lie with the elected officials, they instruct the department heads, Rude people in the Clerk office, Housing, Public Works does nothing but special jobs for SHAW, Mayor Lewis wants to run it but doesn't. Just as you are frustrate so are many of the employees, Shaw say do this and they do it. Mayor Lewis son't know which end is up. Mayor Shaw fired all those people when he came and got rid of the white folks as fast as he could. Mayor Lewis needs to fire all the black SHAW folks as fast as he can and make this town better. The police drive around and see or do nothing the buck starts with them. Fox at the head NO NO NO, if you don't know how to write a police report that is why the thugs are back on the street. ALL ELECTED Officials know that and does nothing, our tax dollars are spent on overtime and no good employees. Then that one Trustee who was a cop is a sad person he does not have a clue about dolton. He needs to run off the Board cause he thinks they ar doing so good. The blind in dolton are in the lead, they will never see what we live through because of their carelessness and blatant disregard for its citizens. WAKE UP MAYOR AND TRUSTEES - I VOTED FOR YOU

You are right. If you wrote the report and hand it to them they wouldn't know what to do with it.
I don't understand how all the people on the right ticket could allow what is going on here. I think all the people who work in the village(of Dolton) should have to live here. And they would see what we see everyday. And this crap and Dolton would stop! If you don't live here do you realy care about Dolton or is it JUST A JOB! Why is there so much crime we don't here about.
Car being stolen, houses rob, window broken, car windows broken and shooting here. We need this place clean up and quick. Maybe if it was their thing destroyed it would change!

I feel the same way. If one or two of their things were damaged, I am sure they would have a hissy fit. Drive thru the town of Dolton, during the day and see if there is anything salvageable in the downtown area. I must admit that there are alot of families keeping their lawns kept up. BUT the village officials need to drive thru and see for themselves, that we need more to help alot of people that have no transportation/because of no work, no money. They could support the village by BUYING in Downtown Dolton. Dolton will be back and I believe Mayor Lewis is running the show. Otherwise, he is bullshitting at the village meetings. People SUPPORT Dolton!!

Do they have illegal identification on them? Shouldn't Dolton's finest be checking out this situation? If for some reason these young people get in trouble, who do they blame? All week-end long there were all kinds of sirens going off/both police and fire along with paramedics, hopefully they were not all fatalaties. My answer to your question, Jr In Dolton, is this: These parents are either partying themselves, at work, or sleeping and do not care about their children. The Village of Dolton is not a babysitting service! I would like to say that alot of parents think that they have good kids, some DO and some DON'T listen to their parents. As Mayor Lewis stresses at the village meetings -- these are your kids and they watch what you do, show them the right ways to conduct themselves in public! And if you see that they are not following your mannerisms correct it so it does not get out of line. I am Proud to be a Dolton Citizen--Hopefully Everybody will and should feel the same way!

Daily Horoscope for December 4

Sagittarius

You're in a sensitive mood today, so you need to choose the company you keep very carefully. Resist the urge to believe only what you want to believe and to disregard the rest, even if something is so obvious that it's staring you in the face. Do not bury your head in the sand or avoid anything unpleasant, because you'll have to face it sooner or later. The more you resist doing this now, the more difficult things may be further down the line.
