Logansport has been talked about in a small county in southwest Virginia. Don Willis of Green USA Recycling has reported that he will be building his second plant in your area. I sincerely hope you get more answers than the people of Lee County have gotten from Mr. Willis.
We are a rural area, in a karst environment. Our agricultural and organic farming are some of our largest endeavors. Knowing that is it amazing that our officals and county employees have invited a recycling plant into our area. This will be Green USA Recycling's flagship facility. Supposedly Mr. Willis will be barrowing 30 to 40 million to build it. One of the officers or past officers according to him Kelly Black White, was indicted on 13 charges of fraud by the US Justice Dept. Mr. Willis calls her "one of the most honest people he knows."
There has been no environment impact study done, confidentiality has been a buzz word to the citizens trying to determine what is going on in Lee County. We have gotten some documents through the Freedom of Information Act. They have shown us that our Industrial Developement Director, Mike James, has a very close relationship with Green USA.
I sincerely hope you do not have to go through what we are fighting now. Good luck. If you would like to follow our topix it is Jonesville Va topix,(750,000 tons of trash to be hauled in to Lee Co.)

There's a website www.stopgreenusarecycling.com that has a lot of information including emails between Don Willis, Green USA Recycling, and Lee County's IDA. Funny, you mentioned a Kelly Black, because she's also on some of these emails that someone had requested therough the Freedom of Information Act.

It's amazing what is being uncovered on that website. Don Willis gives his home address as Indiana and has several businesses in Indiana ... one was a River Club in Kokomo shut down due to gambling or something like that.

Certainly hope this project is put to sleep soon!!

Good luck from Logansport! Your timeline looks similar to ours--lots of secret meetings and then spring the deal on the public when it appears to have too much momentum to stop.

Use FOIA to get answers from your elected officials.
It's ok to speak up. Make them provide data for all claims and make them show their work when they are doing the math.

Hi, I live in Logansport, Indiana and kind of on the fence about the whole thing. Yes, we need to address the old power plant issue, yes it needs up graded, yes we need to deal with the landfill (AKA Mount Trashmore), but the thing they are not discussing is how many homes/ lives will be destroyed and displaced? I am concerned about this because my family and I live in one of the possible sites to build it on. We only know this because we bumped into people we know and they told us that some friends of theirs who own property in our neighborhood had already been approached about selling. On top of that the bank that has the mortgage is foreclosing on us without just cause. I have been doing research online and found all kinds of info about it including one describing our side of town. Anyone with info that might help us in court especially articles pertaining to location would most helpful.

Logansport, here is the update on Lee County and Green USA Recycling.
After coming in to Lee County, VA with big talk and the (supposed) financial ability to build his flagship plant, Mr. Willis is not building here. The VA Tobacco Commission has called the project dead. Mr. Willis has walked away with $225,000.00 that the citizens will have to pay back to the Tobacco Commission. Our IDA is not blameless in this matter. They did not investigate Mr. Willis or Green USA Recycling before they applied for a TROF grant to help Willis build, however they were sold by a master salesman. Mr. Willis has no credit to build his fantasy recycling plant. That fact has been admitted by our IDA after 18 months, they finally wised up. I hope you all did not lose money by talking to this guy.

IDA board members can repay it. The citizens did their homework and found plenty of information on GUSAR, knowing it was a scam from the start.
