People always say that Vermont Gov. James Douglas is a nice man. But he has character as well as policy failings which we can no longer afford to overlook.

It's safe to say this person hates Douglas?(you think!) Clearly has spent years of sleepless nights on this matter. The only obvious thing that would come close to satisfying this person would be the election of a Socialist Governor who hates the free market economy and embraces Karl Marx.

Vladimir is the only person that would seem to satisfy this person.

Douglas is holding the economy of this state back. We could become a center of innovation in new energy technologies, create a lot of jobs and bring in money for products made here. But Old Jim doesn't want to hear about innovation. Just stick to the past.

And of course he vetoed the bill to insure that Entergy pays for the decommissioning of VY as promised. A hwore for the nuke industry.

Would a center of innovation actually create jobs and revenue? How would that happen?

" He doesn't care about those of us who want to keep the state green and lovely "

==========

It's evident she can't comprehend how doing that effects the cost of living and doing business in the state.

When workers need to earn over $5.00 an hour more to cover the bloated cost of housing and property taxes all jobs that can flee the state will do just that.

Vermont isn't the only state losing most of it's recent college graduates, it's happening in the surrounding states also so as the baby boomers retire and flee the northeast taxes and their kids do the same, the tourist industry will die off as the northeast has fewer and fewer wealthy people that can afford skiing trips and vacation homes.

Vermont has a lot going for it, it doesn't have the massive built up legacy costs for government employee's, has lots of open land and natural resources, has access to a huge market in the northeast and canada so could be a thriving place.

"Aren't 100 companies with 30 employees just as good as one company with 30,000 employees?"
==========

actually large employers are the ones who set up car & van pools and are the ones who have in house food service so people don't jump in their cars to go get lunch.

Overall not an orgional thought in the rant the woman made, just pre-programmed propaganda totally void of thinking outside the box.

It's actually not that complicated. The public sector creates incentives (tax holidays, infrastructure, access to university research departments, other advantages) to entice private investors to set up their new industries here rather than somewhere else.

It's important to get in on it early, since once it's established somewhere, that place is likely to remain a hub for the new type of industry. You miss out in the beginning, you're competing with everywhere else playing catch-up.

On wind energy, Douglas is in fact having it both ways, as usual. He panders to opponents -- people legitimately concerned about environmental destruction of otherwise protected ridgelines and the loss of rural peace and quiet and dark skies -- while his DPS is pushing it as much as anyone. The abominable Sheffield project was approved -- only the feds have presently delayed it to protect wetlands.

On this point, Douglas -- i.e., on the face of his public stand -- is right. It's the only reason in Joyce's list to thank him.

Still waiting for Universal Health Care. Symington won't give it to you. POllina will. Still waiting for action on Vt Yankee? Symington won't close it. Pollina will. From Democrats you will continue to get incremental change....bandaids. We need change and it won't come with Symington.

In general I think 3rd parties are a waste of votes, but after watching Symington cave in to the Republicans and stonewall the impeachment vote in the House when the VT Senate had already passed it, I can't bring myself to vote for her.

I doubt she or Pollina can win a 3-way race. And once again the center and left are splitting their votes, which is the only way Old Jim can keep winning despite his pathetic record. We're our own worst enemies sometimes.

I'll hold my nose and vote for Pollina, but Vermont seems doomed for another 2 years of stagnation.

Dude, it's amazing how blind and out of touch you are. And we should replace Douglas with -- what? The wine-and-cheese blue-blood elitist Gaye Symington? She wouldn't know how to create a job is she tripped over one. Working-class Vermonters? Jobs? If she ever thinks about it at all, she thinks the working Vermonter is that Mexican guy who fixes her Volvo, and she doesn't give a rat's ass about him. Or me. Or anyone who doesn't live off trust funds but actually busts his or her butt every day to make a paycheck. Give me a freakin'break. Or Anthony "I-live-off-my-wife's-inh eritance-that's-why-I-can-cont inually-run-for-office-and-los e" Pollina? No, the choce is not great but Douglas is clearly the least offensive of the bunch.

Oh, yeah. By the way, exactly what did Symington do to encourage wind power in Vermont? Let me spell it out for you: N-O-T-H-I-N-G. Douglas is wrong on windpower in my view, but Gaye is no different. That's because a good part of her elitist "I-didn't-buy-2000-acres- in-Vermont-to-see-wind-turbine s" friends are against windpower, too.

And she voted for the two-vote school budget system in 2007, but as soon as her teacher's union friends came to the Statehouse in 2008, she reversed her vote.

You gotta be kiddin' me.

Hehe, I can't believe all this intelligence and you can't even multiply.

Speaking of IBM, you won't have to wait long until its gone and let me tell you, this state cannot survive without it. Chittenden country will be look even more like Springfield, and then we get to have Fletcher-Allen be the states leading employer, that makes me feel so much better. Their math is almost as good as the authors.
