Wow! I think I remember someone named Garwood. Maybe a Michael Garwood? The Locker kids are - Tommy, Linda, Danny, Lisa & Irene. And yes, you are correct about Judy being their mom. My sisters and I hung out with them for a few summers. I am sure there are many more that I will remember if I sit down and think real hard. Funny thing is, I have cousins who moved to Township about 15 years ago, and are friends with people I knew as a kid. Our last name is Donohue. This thread is too funny!

Hi Again! Yes Carrie I do recall that the lawn was off to the right, more on the side of than behind the house. I do remember the tire swing, but not many other details. I don't know if you're old enough to remember the old bridge.
it was one lane, on an angle (they had to straighten the road when they built the new one),
wooden, and you had to slow down to 5mph to cross it. You also had to watch for traffic coming the other way! We used to fish under it quite a bit.
Did you know any of the kids that lived on the other side (Sandra Lesko, Laurie & Billy Horn,
Billy, Susan or Sara Leeds)? It was weird, they lived right there and went to Springfield Twp. schools. I do remember one of the Lockers...his name was Danny. Good to hear from you again!

I do remember that old wooden bridge! They replaced it maybe in 1976? 77? I remember that because it was a major deal for the bus to have to drive through *gasp* city, and up high street, and down fountain avenue to get to O'Hopkins MIDDLE school...That's right...when it was still a middle school.(I think we were in 6th grade the first year it opened!!!) Laurie and Billy Horn...I remember them. My brother dated Laurie so I invited Billy to be my date on a hayride one year. She went to Northern Burlington High School, I remember.

Hi there! No, I didn't know the kids on the other side. They may have been older, not sure. Although the Horn family sounds very familiar. Not sure why though. And you are correct about the location of the side lawn. That is so funny that you were on our property. I remember my mom had some sort of measuring stick located half way between the house and the creek ... and several times the creek had risen so high it was well passed the stick, and very close to the house. Those were the days we would see lots of people in boats in the creek. We would just out there and wave to them. Pretty funny. And I don't think I remember the old bridge. I think we moved there after that. Take care!

I was born and raised in Willingboro NJ in the 80's and I remember many of places/things listed in these comments.
Holiday Lakes - I used to go to day camp there in the summer and would spend my day sifting sand looking for bottle caps. It is still there but is now owned by a church that was built just outside the gates.
Holiday Ice Cream - They made the BIGGEST ice cream cones ever. They too are still around but moved their location due to the church being built.
Willingboro Plaza - I remember how cool and big it used to be and how much fun my brother and I would have shopping with my mom there. It had court yards and fountains and best of all... Ricardo's Pizzeria!
Rickel's - Now the Bulington Contractor Yard was someplace that my dad would run to all the time to fix things that broke in our house.
Olympia Lakes - This place had the best fishing while I was growing up. The largemouth in there looked like they could eat you when I was little. I still fish there frequently, however, the fish have really dwindled down to nothing. Unfortunetly, the "fishermen" (if they should be called that) keep EVERYTHING they catch big or small or TEENY and have really depleated the lake. It's sad.
I have very fond memories of growing up in Willingboro and can only hope that one day it will be restored to the thriving, friendly and beautiful community it was intended to be and was when I was a child. Crime and complete lack of pride and ownership has really turned Willingboro for the worse.

I grew up in Burlington Twp and was interested in seeing what places others have fond memories of. It would be nice to get other perspectives and information.
Some of the places I remember
1. The Burlington Mart (burned down years ago)
2. Kiddie City
3. Pathmark Drugstore
4. Willingboro Plaza
5. Assipunk (spelling?) The pond next to the municipal park. Used to gather there for late night drinking in high school.
6. Mill Creek Park - Is that weird UFO thing still there??
7. Sylvan Lake
8. Alston Cook Park - small neighborhood park
9. Columbus Farmers Market
10 The drive in movie theater off of Rt. 130 (Edgewater Park??)
11. Fox Movie Theater (next to the Willingboro Plaza)

I remember sitting at the counter at Woolworth's! The balloons were pinned to multicolored umbrellas. I remember the head shop, too. Wasn't it under the Children's sample shop? I bought landlubber and U S Male hiphugger jeans there.

Oh the Childrens Sample shop..My Mom bought my Brownie and Girl Scout uniforms from them
It may have been under or across from the Hunka Munka
It's amazing how one memory triggers another
I remember the bowling alley at the Plaza and the big fountain that kids would jump in. Also the ice cream shop. Was anyone around for the Fire House dances on Friday nights near Sunset Pharmacy i think. How about the model homes that they stopped using and let kids use them to hangout? They called the house "The Rap Room". I remember wearing my first pair of "Hot Pants" there. I was about 14..Oh Lord help us

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Scorpio

If you've been surrounded by people during the past few days you welcome the chance to have some time to yourself today. It's a wonderful excuse to do something really indulgent in private, such as scoff a whole box of chocolates while watching a favourite film on TV. But make sure you destroy all the evidence before everyone else comes home!
