If the MT Pleasant MHI closed it would be a great disservice to this area and all of Southeast Iowa. There are to many patients that depend on the locality and the proffessional programs that this facility offers. Community based care is good if the person suffering from a Mental Illness is stable and on their medications, but they will not go to outpatient treatment if they are not medically stable. The population that you want to cut services for, is in my opinion the most vorunable and helpless to help themselves. I have seen good results coming out of the treatment programs here and this state desparately needs to expand the services it already has in place, not close them down. When are the cuts for the mentally ill going to stop? It is not ethical or humane to not have accute beds available where the patients have access to them. Personally I hate to see the fall out with more homeless, and mentally ill people committing crimes because they cycle off their medications and they do not know what they are doing. Prison should not be the only options this population has to look forward to in getting the help they so desparately need. Please reconsider the plite of this group of our Iowa Citizens, and keep their life line open, so that can maintain a good quality of life.

Have you heard anything about the Treatment center that has cut the Drug and Alcohol treatment program and stopped the sex offender treatment program for awhile?
The SO program started back up but I heard they are not going to start the D&A back up.

Does anyone know anything for sure about these programs?
