Wow, I get the impression that this 4 year old is smarter than all the nasty comment makers on here. Try being a parent and then you can judge others because as mean as the comments are toward this mother you obviously have no children. Go complain about the fact that there are so many drugs on the streets and leave this poor woman and her family ALONE!! She deserves much more than your nasty comments. Guess your perfect!! Get a life!!! Prayers to the family of this horrific tragedy!!

Thank the good Lord none of you have ever been in a situation like this. Obviously she panicked and ran. If she was feeding or changing the baby and she's the only one there it only takes a minute for a 4 year old to get into trouble. And no, you can't keep your kids locked up forever in a playpen or high chair! Give the poor mom a break, she's probably going through hell right now. Sure wish I was perfect like some of you and have the right to judge others like you do without even knowing the circumstances!

Thoughts, prayers, and good wishes go to all involved. What were 4 and 5 yr olds doing up at that time, much less outside?

I know someone who has a child that is 3. The child can tell mom where they are going, and she says o.k. Out the door the child is going, and that is it. Mom doesn't even watch to see that the child gets to where they are going. One reason they do this is because they feel they are in a safe area and everyone is watching out for everyone's kids. NOT TRUE PEOPLE! You are blessed with these children to watch over and raise. I know it can happen quickly as my own son took off one day at the age of two from playing in the backyard with his sister and his cousin. Thank God that within 10 min. he was found to be down at my aunt's house just a few doors down playing in her backyard. Totally FREAKED me out...but he was in the backyard where he was supposed to be with his older sister and older cousin....NO PEOPLE....doesn't work that way. Not at these ages. I feel for this mother because I am sure she did not think about her son getting in the car and driving it, much less starting it. She is probably lacking in sleep with just having a newborn...the poor child who never got to grow up. It is just so unthinkable. It is too late for this family...but anyone else out there....please, please, please...know where your kids are, make sure you have safety locks and latches, keys put away...it's such a heartbreaking story. I can't even imagine what the little boy is thinking...he probably panicked as well. Unfortunately, he is old enough to remember what happened. Such a sad, sad, sad story.

WHAT???? Apparently she used her newborn as a shield to protect herself. That sweet baby is in a much better place. She will now be safe and loved.

This is something that should have never happened. My thoughts and Prayers are with the family. People can make the excuses and say it only takes a quick second but if you choose to be a parent you need to be aware of your child's or childrens surroundings.I have seen to many lazy parents these days not supervizing their own children. They would rather be texting or talking with their friends.Someone should have been watching the boys in the van, there is no reason why the key was in the ignition.

I am just speechless over this incident!! How/why were the keys within reach?! What was the mother doing at the time? Did he unlock the doors himself or were they already unlock? There are many questions, but the sad outcome of all of this is that there is a baby/his brother that is dead because of this. How do one get through this but with the help of God. I will be saying a prayer for the family and asking God to strengthen them all. This is definitely a devastating moment.

Where were the parents when these two toddlers crawled into the van?? This is neglect on the parent's part. A new life was lost because of neglect to either watch them closely or LOCK THE DOOR TO THE CAR!

Look, Spiderman and anyone else as stupid as him. Mom did not leave the keys in the ignition or anything like that. Before you judge, think about this. I can GUARANTEE you that at some time when you were 4 or 5, or your kid or relatives kid were, you at some point held something in your hand that could have killed or hurt you or someone else. Probably for longer than the few moments it took for this to happen. But you were a bit more fortunate than this kid and mom. So you sit there on your righteous throne and judge someone for being a little less lucky than you. What an ignorant, judgmental, pathetic example of a man. I hope someday you get the chance to make the first mistake of your life so that you may grow as a person. And maybe grow up to be a man.

This is a very sad situation and most of all this is not a perfect world that some of you on here must live. I have 3 boys myself very close in age although nothing like this has never happened to me we here stories old and new of very very stupid things and children do, this one just had a very very sad ending.... We are not to judge anyone and any parent with half a brain knows you can't keep your eyes on a child every single second, let be serious here or manybe its that most of us don't have the perfect life that others on here do where we have nothing else to do all days long but watch our children every second.... MAY GOD BLESS THIS FAMILY AND MAKE THEM STRONG!!!!!!

She let the four year old and a five year old outside, unsupervised, to play. Unacceptable. Unfortunately, the newborn paid the ultimate price for her failure as a mother, and those boys will be haunted by this for the rest of their lives. This was no accident. This is a case of neglect. Given the fact it says the case is still under investigation leads me to believe we will hear of charges being filed - as they should if they found drugs in her trailer or anything else suspicious.

so you ppl think that leaving a newborn child in a house unattended is the right thing to do?? anything could happen to a baby as well. you all would be calling her unfit if she wouldve put her baby down in the house to go stop that van and then something happen to the baby inside. And what parent NEVER takes their eyes off their children for 2 seconds?! NO ONE is perfect so you ppl can come down off your high hourse anytime now.
As for this family, I pray that all is well with them. is it not enough that this family lost a son and a brother but now to redicule her for doing what she thought was best.

I pray for this family. And for those of you that have no sympathy for a family going through somethinmg is horrifing.
