I desperately need help with this financial problem I have dealing with delinquent accounts I owe.?A very bad year got me behind in paying some bills which are now in collection. I am in the process of trying to pay them off, realizing that my credit rating has been affected. Regarding the large ones, I am being offered the opportunity of paying a fraction of what I owe, which is where my questions arise. From a moral standpoint, I told myself that I owe what I owe, and had every intention of paying the full amount, which I still want to do. However, I am curious if I do pay the full amount, will that help me restore my credit rating and eventually be able to get credit again? Or will it have no effect at all? If either paying the full amount or the partial amount I am being offered won't make any difference in my being able to restore my credit rating, then I need to know that. For the record, I am in my 50's and have no one to help out, and need to know there is a light at the end of this tunnel. How do you live without credit? Someone please help so I can sleep again.
