Did you ever think that the bootleggers and other crooked people also benifit from the county being dry? Get off the Church People. If these people really do drink ,like you say, who will know how they vote,or voted, when they go to the polls? You can't blame it all on them, so lay it somewhere else.

Point well taken. There are many who benefit from the way it is. It's not all the church people, but that is the platform that the opposition has typically built on. And for the record, many of them do drink. Look at the court records and be honest about the people that you know. How many of them have voted against this in the past but aren't shy about poping a tab or pulling a cork at a party or an outing with friends. I'm not putting them down just making the point that there is a lot of "say one thing and do another" going on. If things were to change, many of the bootleggers would be among the first to step up and open legal "wet" businesses.

I, for one, would love to go out to a nice restaurant and enjoy a glass of wine with my meal now and then. But without the right to sell alcohol with a meal you can forget about anyone opening a nice restaurant in town.

Well, I think it's obvious that Cumberland County is already wet. The question is not about that but instead about whether that it is legally or not. Like it or not alcohol is there to stay. Any money that would be made from sales would be extra revenue and it would be Cumberland County money staying in Cumberland County. It may be 50 years but if the county wants to be able to compete in tourism opportunities it will eventually be wet.

different strokes for different folks - not a bad idea, i think - put it on the ballot again and don't whine about the outcome whatever it might be - but, in any case, don't mandate the decision -

CC, should become a wet county, because a good majority, of the townspeople, already drink as it is, by allowing this to happen, you would be putting bootleggers out of business, kids are going to get it, if they want it, anyway. And its stupid, to be "moist" because, not everyone likes to drink with their meals.

1 of the first liq./bars in CC if it became wet--you better believe that. A wet county would support the already struggling bus. in this area- it would support restuarants, gas stations and taxi services. Not to mention the 1000's of dollars in tax revenue 2 C.C. and its citizens.

I'm a social drinker and don't mind taking a 20 minute drive to Pea Ridge once a month to pick up a 12-pack ($10.00). I also don't mind spending my money in Tennessee. And while I'm there (in Celina) I fill up my vehile with gas ($40.00) and shop at Save-A-Lot ($250.00 month). Cumberland County doesn't want my money, so I spend it elsewhere. A total of $300.00 per month.

The people of Cumberland County need to decide whether or not they want the added convenience of having alcohol sold locally. We also need to decide if we want additional revenue from County residents, and those of the surrounding counties.

Having alcohol sold in Cumberland County would attract residents from neighboring counties to spend their moiney here, also. While they are here, the'll also be enclined to spend more money while in the county (fuel sales, grocery shopping, tobacco sales, hardware stores, etc.)

So it wouldn't just be the citizens of Cumberland County who would benefit, but also those counties surrounding us. However, it would be Cumberland County who would benefit financially from the increased sales revenue.

Peaople are going to drink no matter if Cumberland County sells alcohol or not. The current laws says; "You can't buy alcohol here, but you can drink here. Just buy it elsewhere because we don't want additional revenue (We would rather remain a poor County)"

I go to restaurants that sell
wine and beer because the food is good. I have to
travel outside of Cumberland County and because of that I do all my shopping there and get my gas also if Cumberland County wants to attract good restaurants and tourists they need to wake up and smell the coffee or this will be a ghost town.

It should also be noted that it are those individauls whom are BOOTLEGGING illegal alcohol that don't want Cumberland County to legalize alcohol sales. It are those same bootleggers that are selling narcotics in Cumberland County.

Legalizing alcohol sales would put all the bootleggers out of business.

So, for those of you who are AGAINST alcohol sales in Cumberland County, WE KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING and we're watching you.

I drink everyday (as do a lot of people I know).

I go to TN 2-3 times per week... one stop shopping with gas, cigarettes and beer. Usually about $40 per visit.

Between me and 4-5 other people I associate with regularly, we would combine for nearly $2000 per month.

That does not include the MANY MANY people I know who drink regularly.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Cancer

Take things gently otherwise you'll end up running round in ever-decreasing circles. Yes, you may still have a lot to do but you won't achieve very much if you develop butterfingers or waste all your energy on a full-blown panic. Maybe you could rope someone into helping you, rather than doing your Cinderella act in the kitchen while everyone else takes it easy?
