Who can remove or delete a topic I start? I started one a few minutes ago and without a response it was removed. I find it sad that a discussion board be subjugated by someone just because they disagree with me politically or philosophically. I would never stoop so low as to "toss the checkerboard".

Are you sure it started?
I think only the topix admin can remove it.
Honestly, I've never had one removed. The one where someone gave my name is still on here.

I don't know what was started and removed, but I think Dave is right, only a topix adm. can do that
but I think the adm. should review this site daily and automactically remove all topix that uses personal names, because they are only on here
to run that person down in some shape, form or fashion. General discussion seem fine, but when some purposely sets out to hurt someone or their family, there is nothing to that person and they need to be barred from ever making any kind of rude comments.

Poor moderation, that's what I call it. They'll delete some posts that didn't do anything bad, but they'll leave up the one's with full names in it, or like the posts in the sexy redhead thread. Which is a fun thread right now.

There is no way that Topix could read all the posts. There are millions of message boards that Topix has on their servers. There COULD be almost one for every town in the USA and other countries. Probably not, but the sheer number of boards make it economically impossible for their moderators to monitor the posts unless there is a complaint that is done correctly.

Sites like Topix runs with as few moderators as possible in order to make more money. Their paid by the number of page views for each ad that shows on the pages that are served to viewers. If they add more moderators their profits will go down. So, their mode of operation is to only moderate the topics that are complained about.

I agree with Thinking. Names don't really have to be used in this small town so if someone is described, and the place of work is told, then you just about can figure it all out. I think there's enough bad stuff going on in the world from evil-doers without us causing more by being mean. I also have a problem with people making ugly comments and taking no responsibility for what they say because they don't have to give their names. It don't take much courage or character to do that.

Personally, I think topix could take volunteers to moderate these forums locally, like the editors and if people have a problem with them removing too many posts, they can be reviewed. Most sane people on here know what's offensive or against the TOS and the ones that are just trying to cause trouble.

Yeah I'm sure people would love to have some moderator power, I know I would.:) Just let the volunteer mods, edit, delete, or move a thread or post. The rest could still be left up the the paid mods.

That's where the problems would start. Everyone would abuse their moderator powers. If they didn't agree with someone else, zap, remove their post or edit it.

I thought about starting a forum where there wouldn't be the gossip stuff, but I didn't want to spend the time moderating it, so I didn't. It would only cost about $80 per year, no big deal, but the time to police it was what stopped me.

That's why using something like the editors that are already here, and be able to report them and have them removed if they get carried away with power. Just for them to go by the TOS which I know the moderators that are now in place can't read all the forums for everywhere. But the constant posting of names, especially the same ones over and over should be able to removed locally and immediately. Nothing against a good argument, differing opinions, spirited debate, even if I'm on the wrong side, but the constant degrading and name calling needs to stop.

i agree. i've known a few of the people talked about on her and know how terrible it was for them until they got their names taken off. i do get mad at people on here, and sometimes i'll call someone an idiot, but i don't know who they are. when someone's real name is one here, it's bad for their whole family, because the whole family ends up being brought into it.

the sad thing about most of them is that you can tell that it's the same person over and over by their isp address. for example, if the two or three people are trashing the same person and they all have the same weird isp address, it's likey they're the same person or two people sitting at the computer together. it's harder to know when it's two people from burkesville, but if you pay attention to the way they write and word things, you'll know who it is.

I don't know about the isp address, but I think that everyone that has internet hooked up to the
Mediacom Cable system has a Burkesville isp. I know that my family members all use one computer with, of course, different log on names and all come up with a Burkesville isp, but my work computer here in town has a completely different
city listed as isp.

yeah, all of us that have duo county have russell springs, apparently. but if there is a completely far off place on here and there are three different people from that same place agreeing with each other, they're probably the same person.
