A lesson that should be taught in all schools .. And colleges

Back in September, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School, did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks out of her classroom.

When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks.

'Ms.. Cothren, where're our desks?'

She replied,'You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn the right to sit at a desk.'

They thought,'Well, maybe it's our grades.'

'No,' she said.

'Maybe it's our behavior.'

She told them,'No, it's not even your behavior.'

And so, they came and went, the first period, second period, third period. Still no desks in the classroom.

By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in Ms.Cothren's classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of her room.

The final period of the day came and as the puzzled students found seats on the floor of the deskless classroom, Martha Cothren said,'Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he/she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom. Now I am going to tell you.'

At this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it.

Twenty-seven (27) War Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. The Vets began placing the school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside the wall... By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned..

Martha said,'You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks. These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it's up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. Don't ever forget it.'

By the way, this is a true story.

ABSOLUTELY!

I just logged on to see what was said to our VETS today and was completely surprised to have to go nearly to the bottom of the page.

I send my personal thanks to all of you, most have which have seen things that would make most of out panzy asses go crying home to momma.
Most people have no clue the sacrifices you've made and what you endured so that we could have the right to cry everytime we see something on the news that we feel is "unfair" to the bastards that tried to kill you.

Thank you for giving us the right to not be communist, Nazi or solicalist.
Thank you for giving us the right to choose.

Many may forget, I personally will not. I've never been where you have been or seen the things you've saw, but I've often imagined what it would be like. I'll never lose sight of putting myself in your shoes, I'm not sure I've got the balls you guys have shown and that's why I'm so proud to honor you on this day that's been set aside for just that!

My Grand Pa was a WW2 vet and proud to be! The stories he'd tell on occasion would literally give me goose bumps.

No one knows until they've been there, but I certainly appreciate what I can imagine about it.

It's a Damn shame the way our vets are treated these days, but just so you know...

Many of us still appreciate everything you've done!

AMEM !!!!!!!!!!

All of america should fill this same way, but alot don't and that is sad. These people fought and died for the freedom that we all take for granted. Maybe alot more, needs to endure the pain that they (VETERANS) have endured so that they would learn to aperciate the greater things in life that they take for granted.

You liberal SOB! Do the men and women who served else where diserve to be dishonored? What if you enlisted and were sent to war and saw your best friends head blew off and his blood splattered on your face? What if you had a leg blown off or saw your own being burned to death with a flame thrower? Would you want to hear some panzy dip shit like yourself on here spouting off your winnie washer?

Won't you fuc&ing move to canada! That's not a question, but a suggestion, you'd fit in well there!

Whats your problem? Are you one of those pansy ass draft dodgers?

If you don't like the freedom that we have here in America than take you pansy ass to another country so they can tell you how to live, ECT.

Every Veteran that has died, or fought, for us deserves to be honored to the highest and anyone that thinks different needs to be sent to the front lines and have their ass shot off!

Without these brave soilders your pansy ass wouldn't have the right to even use a computer.

Well, it's very apparent that you are one of those that spit on us when we came home. Probably also one of the demonstrators that did everything within their power to destroy our moral. After 30 years of waiting, would love to run into you somewhere, anywhere. Never blame the troops, blame the administration, but, like the old saying goes, if you can read this, thank a teacher. If you're reading it in english, thank a vet!

wrong i in no way question your bravery or your beleiving what you was fighting for at the time i do question the reason you was sent over there an it wasnt to keep the usa free. we got ran out of vietnam an it didnt make one bit of difference they are just fine with out us in thier business, i can justify world war 1 an 2 an maybe the korean thing but the rest have been totally finanical for the big money people.no i would never say anything bad about the men who fought an died because they didnt have a choice it was either fight or go to jail if you look back now you will see it was a waste of of men an money i wonder how sad some families are that they lost love ones for nothing.i ask again what was north vietnam doing to us to justify a war????

from your statement above, you show you know nothing of the mindset of patriotic americans - "fight or go to jail"?- hasn't the concept of duty and honor and responsibility every entered your waking moments ?

i've heard that cowardice is something very difficult to live with - perhaps that is why you go to every ridiculous extreme to find some sort of excuse to rationalize and thus diminish your own shortcomings - if you want to find out what is wrong with our country at this point in our history, don't waste time researching big business or corporate conspiracies or political shenanigans - just look in the mirror -

yeah - let everyone see - i made a point in post #15 and you immediately verify it in post #16 -
maybe they'll also see you fouled up a perfectly good thread about honoring our vets with your assinine commentary and you got called on it - and that makes me the "smartass" ?

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Sagittarius

Mercury turning retrograde in your house of finances carries a rather unseasonal message, because it's telling you to pay attention to your finances over the next few weeks. If you already know that you've overspent this month, you won't need to be told that a few economies are just around the corner. Get the facts straight and pay attention to the small print. You may also have to make some adjustments to an intimate relationship so it can move into another phase.
