Two decades would be a more appropriate sentence. How did he get away so lightly?

In the old days the Navy punished homosexuals with 88 years at Hard Labor. They were serious about keeping the perverts out of Military service--and it worked!

Anyway, it is very good that this predator priest has been unmasked and fired. This Navy guy is exactly who Pope Benedict had in mind when he talked about "the filth" that needed cleaning out in the American Catholic Churches.

I'm sorry but being a homosexual is not a "pervert". Maybe to some but they are not to the general american public.
i do agree that it is good that this man has been caught and punished.

The sexual orientation of this Navy chaplain should not be the issue, but homosexuals will be scapegoated here because they are an easy target. A homosexual orientation is neither "intrinscally evil," or objectively disordered," as some religious fanatics would like us to believe.

The problem here is that this guy is a predator, no question. And he has used the power inherent in his position to seduce and abuse people.

The state should be prosecuting this guy instead of sitting on their backsides. It is only a question of time before someone he has infected dies. Then the charge will be murder and there should not be any plea deal.

BTW, way haven't we heard that this narcassistic bum is being defrocked as in "laicized" by the Roman Catholic Church or is that outside the purvue of the new Archbishop of the Military Viaracte?

Oh, where or where is the heavy-handed former Military Archbishop Edwin O'Brien when he's needed? He can send this low life up to the retreat house in Pennsylvania for prayer and reflection on his "crimes" as he did to Baltimore's Reverend Martin who let a woman minister help out, let a dog in church and was late for appointments.

...It is tiring trying to defend the Church after these constant abuses. I agree, who was this Chaplain, and more importantly, who and/or what did he know to secure this important position in the first place? I also would like to know where is Archbishop O'Brien's take on this incident? As the yrs go on I have learned to divorce the Catholic FAITH from the people who preside over it's church. The FAITH itself has a lot to offer, unfortunately some of the people affliated in its' highest ranks have nothing to offer.........

This priest should have received a death sentence! Two years is a joke and downright insulting to the victim in this case.

Oh yeah ... an openly homosexual military is SUCH a good idea. And while we are at it ... why not billet men and women in the same barracks as well. We can't discriminate against the heterosexuals can we?

I served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Homosexuals are NOT wanted among the rank and file soldiers, sailors, marines and air force personnel who protect our rear ends every day. Same-sex addiction, is just plain wrong. However if you are one of those who is addicted, there is hope--there are many organizations who help those who are same-sex addicted overcome their addiction and lead a clean, normal, healthy life again.

This is just ridiculous... Imagine if this guy was a jewish rabbi or a muslim cleric... The hypocritic christians would be calling for his head. Then again you don't hear of many other religious leaders outside of the christian faith that are molesting children, do you?
I am Roman Catholic and I think that the sentence is a travesty on the justice system.

Two years?

Try 20 years.

Also, if one of his partners dies of AIDS, capital punishment.
