A 14-year-old girl from Burke allegedly was assaulted and robbed by a group of 12- to 15-year-olds on Saturday, Fairfax County police said.

I agree, the parents need to have better control over their kids. That is what is wrong with a large part of society; parents too busy doing whatever they want to do instead of raising their kids.

Okay FIRST! I just can't believe this has happened in PERFECT Virginia... where the sun always shines and everything is right with the world...:-)

Second: Someone please tell me why a 14 year old girl was out walking at midnight! ALONE? Oh! that's right, I almost forgot she was walking in Fairfax VA, where they're always shocked to hear that something has happened in their neighborhood.

At 12 midnight my daughter wouldn't be out walking ANYWHERE to meet ANYONE! Where was her parents? She should have been at home! Let's use a little common sense people!

... and for all those who like to point out the fact that the perp's are probably hispanic... Maybe she was too, so what difference does it make! Her parents shuold have had her at home where she belonged!

Most of the responses have hit the nail on the head - what happened to the friends she was with and what a fools her parents are and she is a fool also. At 14 she should have known better unless she is really, really stupid. I can't work up much sympathy for her. Do find it hard to believe it happened in VA. though from previous postings I thought VA was immune.

Kids of all races (including myself at that age) walk around in Burke way after midnight...most of the time they're hanging out at the Wendy's or next to the Shell station. It's been a relatively safe area...well at least up until now.

Could it be she <gasp!> SNUCK OUT of the HOUSE???? The ol' "climb out the window when the parents thing you're asleep" routine? That sort of thing has been going on for decades (possibly even *centuries*!). Hopefully she'll think twice about it next time and be thankful her only loss was a phone & a jacket.
