What about those who only got in trouble because they were twenty and she was 17. That person will be affected by these law as well. I think it should only be put into effect for those who are pedophiles. And remember you can already check up on those who live in your area and you can watch your kids. If every town keeps putting up stronger and stronger limitations these sex offenders aren't going to have any place to go and they'll be living under bridges and we don't know where else where we can't keep track of them. We just need to keep track of them better and parents need to watch their children. You are the only one who can truly keep your child safe. You are their last line of defense. Most sex offenders who repeat their crime aren't properly registered anyways. And most children aren't molested by the stranger living down the street but someone you let in your home weather family or friend. Always talk with your children. There are plenty of website that will give you advise on how best to prevent this horrific crime from happening to your child. And if you don't like the results of this vote elect new people.

I am aware that people are convicted for many reasons. There are a few that were 19 with a girlfriend that is 17. There are more people that are simply predators that abuse, rape, molest, and damage a soul for a lifetime. There is no gray in this issue. It is black and white. You simply except that there are these people that have already been convicted of the crime living outside the school's door. Or you do something about it, which I and many others plan to do. We can not shelter our kids from every harm in life. But why should we continue to stand by when there are people that are unable to be cured of their thirst for sexual harm. I am aware that some cases are by people close to home but, several are not. If you know what the person is capable of why would you be okay with their presence living next to our schools, churches, parks, and daycare facilities? That would be like saying that you are okay with you neighbor being a serial killer. You can never tell when they will feed their urge. The lack of this ordinance not only keeps our children in harms way but, it also is allowing the police department to have a longer leash on this type of crime. I personally have seen these registered sex offenders in my child's school and have also had a child that was a victim to a sex crime. It ruins lives! So although I understand there must be pain for someone convicted for having intercourse with their 17 year old girlfriend when they them self are only 19 or 20. I can live with the decision to make ALL registered sex offender live by an ordinance that would keep our children further from harms way.

Yes it does ruin lives. And you are wrong the majority of any sexual abuse is done by a friend or relative not a stranger. And a school that allows anyone with a past like that is just stupid that what background checks are for. Maybe you should check into a new school. And I have had friends and family who have been victims and friends and family who have been in trouble because of a 17 year old dalliance. Seeing as serious complex problem such as this in black and white is ignorant and uneducated. By your reckoning we should also make murders, thieves, or any such criminal register as well despite the seriousness of their crimes; just to make us, the oh so innocent citizen, feel safer because we now know where the bad guys are(not).

In this country you can out right kill someone, then if you have the money get off free,(see oj simpson), or do minimal jail time and get paroled. However, you do not need to register for life.
Only if your deemed a sex offender do you have to not only do time but then they make you register and pay fines and dictate where you live?
sounds like double jeopardy and unconstitutional to me.
