Ok, perfect case study. Let's see how long patch keeps up the BREAKING NEWS banner about the accident at the midlothain metro stop. The accident has been cleared for over an hour, and the trains are back on schedule.

I'm guessing the PATCH IDIOTS will leave the banner up there until at least tomorrows rush hour, which confirms what I previously stated. They want eyeballs, not accuracy or respectable journalism.

Well, those fricking PATCH IDIOTS still have this as BREAKING NEWS. Classless, pathetic, unprofessional website needs an enema. Hope the site crashes and they all lose their jobs.

Just like editors put headlines on stories in the newspaper that the writer has no control over.

I doubt they are being taught this in school. It most likely is a directive from Patch to create readership. The Breaking News story last week about a HS football player was just plain ridiculous! To bad for the kid but really? It was not breaking news by any measure

They encourage you to post onto their site because it gives them control over advertising you see, and records metrics on the viewership they have. Its about USER ENGAGEMENT, which is a marketable aspect to advertisers. More people need to know that Patch is an AOL subsidiary.

In regards to tbe BREAKING NEWS, it has gotten a bit ridiculous. As stated before the story about the start high school football players injury was an over-the-top use of the moniker. It has been something that is becoming an increasing trend on behalf of Patch.

I personally like getting breaking news alerts, but when I see my email getting loaded up with alerts for "interest pieces" or delayed news its unnerving. Kind of a "boy who cried wolf" situation in my opinion.

To address the threads topic, this woman needs to do a long stint in Dwight.

Just goes to show you that the asshat of an editor at the OF Patch doesn't know squat about journalism. She's just a dim bulb who thinks she's running a newspaper. Someone needs to let her know she's peaked in the business if this is how she intends to spend her life. Maybe posting more pictures of her hound will make her feel better while she types away in her pjs.

Ok, I have to agree here. This is ridiculous and it's confusing because my neighbor called me to say a train just hit a car because she saw it on patch. I had to to see for myself and tell her it really was yesterday's news. I don't know who Lauren is, but if she's in charge of the website, she really is an idiot and should be fired for confusing residents.

Here is a topix forum about and Oak Forest woman stealing money from her cashier job at Carl Sandburg high school and all the comments are about "OF PATCH JOURNALISM" Seriously?? Take that talk somewhere else. If we are getting "technical" about proper usage because this forum IS NOT ABOUT JOURNALISM. I mean since we are arguing about proper usage, please reread the title of this forum. "Cops: Oak Forest Woman Accused of Stealing More Than $9,200 From Sandburg HS" ......... Should I be more clearer?

As for the incident, I hope the court makes the right conviction for this woman and her theft. Sandburg seems to be having a lot of trouble with their staff lately.

Totally agree. Stop hijacking the thread and post under the appropriate topic.

As for Sandburg having a lot of trouble with staff lately, what else do you know? This is the only situation I have heard about, but if there is more going on I would like to know. Thanks.

This is Orland Park, not Cal Park ( sorry cal park).
This is the 2nd Theft. Illegal aunt, niece what ever illegal registering a illegal student from another town, ripped off cashier.

Now this. There is a 10% unemployment crisis in our Country.

And Sandburg hired them all. How many were not caught?
