I think that it was a setup just like it was in the last election.

Maybe it had something to do with the "dangling chads" like the Bush/Gore election...whatcha think? Nah, had to be a setup. Whatever!

Thank GOD!

Winnfield would have been doomed with Spikes as mayor. Not only Winnfield but all of Winn Parish would have suffered if Spikes would have been elected.

What did Spikes mean " It wasn't 50+1 it was 50+ a percentage point." If he means it wasn't 50% of the vote plus one then it's probably a good idea he didn't win becuse he ain't no math whiz. What an odd thing for him to say. 50% of the votes cast would have been 829.5 votes Audirsch had 843...I'd like to know what he meant.

I just read the same thing in the Town Talk. Why do reporters not ask follow up question when someone says things like this. It's almost as if they are not listening to the answers. I guess this is what separates a "real reporter," from a wannabe and a real newspaper from bird cage flooring. If I were the editor and a reporter brought in a piece of drivel like that for me to print, I'd make 'em walk to Winnfield and get the story or go home.

don't complain because spikes didn't win .you black folks didn't get up and go vote like you were suppose to.you see the white folks got up and voted because they didn't want a black man in a major office like the mayor's seat.now let's see what happens. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE VOTERS LEAGUE IF THEY DON'T GET OUT AND PUSH THE VOTE.HAVING A BANQUET EVERY YEAR ISN'T ABOUT ANYTHING IF THE MEMBERS AREN'T PUSHING FOR EDUCATING THE VOTER ON THE ISSUES AND PUSHING FOR VOTER REGISTRATION. come on voter league show us what you are about!!!!!!!!!! that's you mr. ashley

Maybe Spikes just wasnt the man for the job. Everything happens for a reason. Its not about race, its about who is better qualfied to move Winnfield forward. There was a group of Black preachers that was also supporting Spikes. So dont blame everything on the Voters League. We need to get passed the color of skin and look at who is better qualified. Its not about having a quote as someone said, lets get us a Black mayor. What about those people in the bible that wanted a king because everyone else had one. What happen to them. After they got their king they still wasnt satisfied. Come on people of Winnfield, 3 times. Wake up. Everything happens for a reason.

How racist can you be? I considered the qualifications of each man, not the skin color. I'm sorry you consider the color of the skin above the qualifications of the man. I must say, I don't think we had much choice. Both men have been for years spending from the public till. The people need to demand that government get smaller , not larger from grant money,(taxes) and local taxes. Let's see government operated on less just as we have to do.

I was able to attend the LA Forest Festival this year but was very surprised that this community doesn't really support this Festival. What happen to the days of lots of fun and support from the Locals? Seemed to me that there were no Political Officials ex: City, Parish Or State that attended. Is it just me (as an outsider) or is it the way it is? I even understand from others that employees of timber related jobs don't always come to this event.

I went to another festival in another state recently and the whole town and community were enjoying the festivities. We didn't have the Hog Dogs this year so thought that the Forest Festival would be a hit. Not really.

If none of you have been to Alaska...they pay BIG Bucks on those Shore Excursions to see just what is right here in Winnfield yearly, the Timber Events. Everyone says, Nothing to do here, WELL Take advantage and attend this festival. We are in desparate need of more family events and this is it! Think about this when you complain about "Nothing to do"..Support our City & Parish! If we (as Winn Parish Citizens)don't support our Community, then why should anyone else? Think on this question.

I suspect there are some very intelligent black people that voted against Spikes, only because he was the least qualified. I also have an idea that there were many whites that didn't vote, also. What intelligent person needs an organization to "push" them to register to vote? Not independent thinkers, for sure!
