During this last snowfall we were out of power and had no phone for about 48 hours. Our cell phone also was not working. We are fortunate that we have a wood burning stove and a kerosene heater. My concern is that we have always been advised to have a batter operated radio on had in an emergency. But the stations we were able to get, 97.5, Charlotteville, 103.1 Culpeper, only had music. There was no information about where one could go if they needed a shelter and no alternative heat source. 107.7 in Washington DC was loud and clear but the information was for that area only. Is there no a radio station we could go to to get information. Again we had no phone or electricity. Please advise.

Since WJMA (103.1) is now licensed out of culpeper from what I can find it looks like WVCV 1340 AM is the only station broadcasting out of Orange. Hope this is helpful.

I for one think the new county Fire/EMS Chief Dube and his "Empire" handled this storm all wrong. Dube is a big FEMA man, a former search and rescue big shot and was a VA planning commission hotshot. He KNEW this storm was coming, hell he has a TV!
It wasn't until 4:30pm SATURDAY the county opened a flipping shelter. Lake Anna rescue opened theirs first another squad opened theirs too, BEFORE the county did. WTH is that? What is that?
I hope some heads roll ofer this and folks IT starts at the top not at the volunteers and paid fire/EMS folks in the trenches!
The event has been a wake up call-no matter how well you may think you're prepared-you're not. BUT you surely expect your county to help.
Boo-hiss!
