Would somebody please explain to me why a judge sentences someone to 50 years then suspends 40 of it! This guy is going to be back on the streets in 10 years doing the same thing.

I went to school with this boy. I never would have thought then that he would have done something so horrific, but I guess that really does go to show that you never know what someone does behind closed doors. This just makes me sick and ashamed to even know him... I think he should have gotten all 50 yrs, and his n*tz clipped.

What a despicable human being! 50 years is too short, but 10 is nothing more than a whack across his knuckles.

Agreed, he should serve all 50 and with none suspended. We all need to write our congress men and start protesting thta these sentences need to be served to the fullest extent and no time suspended. This is an outrage to say the least.

Here we go again. Judges letting sexual offenders pretty much off the hook. This judge must be from the valley. The judges over there do the same thing. I hope everyone in jail knows what this guy did and fills his dance card for the prison prom.

Sounds good in theory, but in reality there's no money for that kind of long term incarceration. We'd have to build dozens of prisons to house everyone if they served their whole sentence. Wall Street crash = economy crash = no jobs = no revenue = no services (but..we have a smaller government! Isn't that what people voted for?)

Hopefully, the boys on the inside will make those 10 years seem like 50...

Mr. Cullen was appointed Attorney General of Virginia by former governor George Allen. He is also Chairman of the mega-lawfirm McGuireWoods LLP.

What??? The judge s**ks s**t. All but ten years, too bad it wasn't the judge's child. This creep deserved every bit of 50 years if not more.

Give me a break, no wonder our country is in the shape it is. You do something like this and get a slap on the wrist.

Who was the ISP?
Was there something unusual about the recipient address that prompted them to check that specific email?
Seeing as how their actions saved a toddler from a lifetime of abuse, don't you think they deserve some recognition?

I can understand what you're saying, but to say too bad it wasn't the judge's child? That in itself is just cruel to say.

This judge's sentence really disturbs because I think it could happen to anyone. What exactly is "civil commitment"? Is sounds like nothing more than being able to hold someone in confinement whithout benefit of a trial and conviction by a court. Remember, the sentence is 50 years. Thy civil confinement afer release from prison if the judge himself suspended 40 years of it. But, there are other cases where the felon has served his complete sentence andis still confined for an unspecified duration by someone who was not a part of the original trial. What sense of fairness is this. But for sure, civil commitment is not a trial by jury. It could happen to anyone for any offense. A driving texter could face the same fate, because the odds are that she will become a repeat offender and thereby a danger to society.

Thank God the ISP caught this. Like the article said, people don't believe children that age. I know my parents didn't and their right, it would have continued. Something needs to be done about these people, they will never stop. People get more time for harming an animal then harming a child. It messes you up for life, you can hold it back for a while then something triggers it. These people destroy innocent little lives. I have a 3 year old granddaughter and you can bet the court would never get the chance to allow an animal to walk free that touched her that way cause buddy I would stop him myself!!

Civil committment is a prison like setting where people who have been convicted of sexual crimes and have served their sentences are placed for rehabilatation/counseling/psyc hiatric evaluation/mental illness to determine if they might possibly re-offend and be a risk to society. It is usually for those who have committed violent sexual acts. Unfortunately there are so many offenders placed in these places, they do not always get the help that is needed (I'm not sure it helps, offenders, violent offenders or pedophiles)
I believe people such as this guy should be placed there after serving the 10 years to be evaluated for risk-assessment, and kept for a long period of time.
Most sex offenders (including viewing of child porn) have committed other sexual crimes that are never known about. Too many are back on the streets and re-offend. It is my understanding that facilities are being found to house these criminals, They should not be allowed to leave prison and sexually assault toddlers or anyone else again.

Wasn't there a man a few years back in Louisa that got sentenced to 99 years for computer child porn? I thought he was suppose to be an example for ALL of the other child sex offenders out there. SOOOOOOO why just 10 I personally think that whats fair for one is fair for all I say give him 99 years as well and for that matter why not give anyone that is brought up on charges like this 99 years!!!!! It should be automatic 99 years!!!! I guess that's our justice system!
