It's pathetic really! That a school founded on Christian belief, turns away because of our liberal society. God doesnt change. The Bible doesnt change! That is why this country sucks because the liberals want t their way or else! How many translations of the Bible are out their because THEY did not lke what they see or hear! Again, pathetic. I am so upset with this desicion.

A very good move for Mars Hill College. Furman University pulled out of the Southern Baptist Convention around 1992 and it has truly flourished.
I agree 110% Excellent move.

Cutting their ties with the Baptist State Convention does not mean they are turning away from Christian beliefs.

Prophetic?
You are truly a prophet of doom & gloom. The people who founded the College wanted a learning institution that was founded on God and Biblical principals. My ancestors were amoung those first few. As one commentator stated, it doesn't mean they are turning away from God.
Please don't bother to quote me any more of your scriptures, as I will not be back to give you the satisfaction of a comment.
Get a real life.
Doom and Gloom? This is exciting as the college follows the Lord's instruction to "Come out of her My people" Perhaps your ancestors had good intentions but we are entering a new day and you cannot put new wine in old wineskins.

The futurist dispensational doctrine of the SBC or the BSC is a hoax that takes the focus off the "Coming of the Lord" and replaces it with the "Going of the saints".

The scripture is not 'mine' it is 'ours', for our admonition.

THREE CHEERS for Mars Hill College and the others for their position! The State and Southern Baptist Conventions have, and continue to, pattern themselves as the Nazis did in the 1930s.

Just because they don't want to be part of the SBC doesn't mean they are turning their back on God. It just means they're turning their back on the SBC like many Independent Baptist Churches have done for decades. My church is a part of the SBC and I'm happy with that, but Baptists believe in free will and the preisthood of the believer. Therefore, if Mars Hill believes the SBC is hindering their ability to be obedient to the Lord, they have the right to follow God's direction. But, if it is, as you claim, some kind of liberal agenda, then I understand your frustration. As for your references to Bible translations, if you want the honest truth you need to study Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic. Those are the languages the Biblical authors wrote and spoke...hundreds and hundreds of years before English existed. That's not liberalism, that's historical fact. Anytime you translate something from one language to another you lose some of the original meaning. Example: John 21:15-17(KJV) Jesus asks Peter 3 times if he loves Him. Why? Because in Greek Peter used 2 different words for love. Many people say it's because Peter denied Him 3 times and that could be true too regardless of Peter's response, but when you study the Greek you get a clearer picture. Peter's response could be a differetn issue, but nonetheless, you can't see that in the English language because we have one word for love. In Spanish they have 2 and in Greek they have 5.

Liberal society is dragging down all the beliefs that responsible people were raised by. Any church that preaches the word of God should be ashamed to have a queer or lesbian preacher.I do believe Chowan college went the same route as Mars college.
