Trust me it was a horrible site to see. As my family and I were on our way back from our mothers' day celebration we ran into this tragic accident upon arriving home to our apartment. My prayers go out to the family of this girl, she was so young. I just was so grateful the my childs were safe. We all need to pray a special prayer for the mom of this young lady, losing her in this way and on this day.

I was there very shock and now, I think that it could happend to my child because he takes the dog for a walk almost everyday. First I want to send my most sincerily sorry to Hidalgo's family, and I hope that it will be a lesson for the apt owners and keep the tree, playground and comunities areas in good conditions for the residents. We really deserve a safe place to live.

Sorry to hear of the loss, that is so tragic. My heart goes out to the family.
Regarding the apartment's responsibility: If the property owner was advised previously that the tree was at risk of falling they could be held liable, otherwise it's considered unpredictable and they are not at fault. So if you see a dead or dangerous tree situation, speak up before it's too late. You may save someone from injury and prevent an expensive lawsuit.

I can't believe that this happened. I got a call this morning from a friend who told me what happened. We both went to high school with her in VA. She was always the life of the party. She was a beautiful, loving,Christian woman! She was such a happy person always giving hugs! My heart goes out to her family and all of her friends!

Damn, this really stinks. I've got a yard packed with trees because I love the shade and the birds, but I guess some danger comes with it.

I understand that some of the news affiliates are questioning the response time of Fire and EMS to the scene. Residents stated it was 30 minutes or more before they arrived on the scene.

What a tragic story. You just have to believe that it was her time and believe that she is in a better place now. I am sorry for her family. I know they will miss her dearly.

Residents stated it was 30 minutes or more before they arrived on the scene. Don't know but it is public record and can't be altered, it is in the 911 computer, not only what time it came in but what time units were dispatched to call and arrival time, but when you are waiting on an ambulance it seems like a long time when it amy not be, preception can be off and 30 minutes is the most common claim of how long it was. but the tapes will tell the truth, of course if it was during the storm, with tornados on the ground and multiple calls it could have taken 30 minutes.

Astrid's classmates and staff at SVA mourn her death, and remember her family and friends in thoughts and prayers.
