My husband is travelling to our property outside of Rusk and we usually head on Hwy 79 out of Buffalo, but the police is turning everyone around to head back to IH 45 because of a fatal accident involving several people.....wondering if anyone has heard of this tonight?

I read that it was a five vehicle accident with four confirmed deceased. It was close to the Highway 79 and County 217 intersection. They said that one vehicle ran into the back of an 18 wheeler and caught on fire. Other than that, I am not sure what all happened. KCBD.com had a short article on this. What's bad is that station is out of Lubbock, Texas. Waco and or Bryan neither one had anything on it on their websites. I pray for all the families involved.

We were coming home down 79 when we topped a hill and saw the line of stopped vehicles (before emergency vehicles we on scene). My husband applied the brakes and realized we were hydroplaning. We had plenty of space to stop, but we weren't. Fortunately, there was nothing coming northbound because of the accident, and we didn't crash into the line of cars. We eased back into the line that was going around the accident on the shoulder and as we got 2 cars away, an emergency vehicle showed up and stopped traffic. This was a horrible accident! A little girl was hit after the initial accident running from the vehicle tying to get to safety. I didn't see an 18 wheeler, but there was a flat bed wrecker(?)... I had thought it was there to load the white vehicle that was in the roadway, but it was there before emergency people showed up (so maybe that was what they hit.) The people in that vehicle survived (except the little girl). Two of the other cars (where there were multiple fatalies) we over in the ditch. We offered the family a blanket and then sat in the car and prayed, thanking God for our safety and praying for those families. It was indeed a black Friday.

It has dawned on me that we never went south of the accident, so there indeed could have been an 18 wheeler involved if it had been traveling southbound. There was a curve there that we couldn't see beyond.

The paper in Palestine is saying the girl that was hit was 15, which makes more sense, since they were going to a ballgame.

i am an oakwood resident. i travel I75 almost every day going into palestine. wrecks at the trinity river bridge all too often. i have almost been run into by speeders on a regular basis. we need more highway patrol along 75 between buffalo and palestine.

i am an oakwood resident. i travel hw 79 almost every day. there is always someone who wants to go faster than every one else. wrecks happen often at the trinity river bridge. i drove all the way from palestine with a target semi about two or three feet from my bumper. i used to pull over into the emergency lane but stoped when i ran over something a tore up my tire. i believe 79 needs to be heavly patrolled by the hp or sheriff's department. i am sure the number of crosses along the road do not reflect the true number of casualties.

Just to give some of the facts... There were only four vehicles(pickup truck, 4Dr Gray care, White SUV, Large Motorhome)... 13 people involved... Yes four DOS and four taken to hospital... all others were not injured! There was not 18 wheeler involved in the main accident. Keep in mind 79 is a very dangerour roadway. There was 3 accidents west of Marquez in the exact same spot on Hwy 79. SLICK ROADS FOKES!!! SLOW DOWN!!! PLEASE!! I DONT WANT TO HAVE TO PICK YOU UP TOO!!!

I regret to hear this kind of info since this is how rumors get started. Not accurate, not even close.

They had my Aunt Cathy's funeral today here in Antlers, OK. Prayers are appreciated for her boys, step daughters, husband, and loved ones. I wasn't able to attend but my heart was with them all.
