I stumbled across this story when I was an evacuee from Hurricane Gustav from South Louisiana staying in a hotel in Addison, TX. Your story touched me, and though I probably will never know your family, I felt compelled to save the site on my computer so that I could keep up with your progress, Jamie. Though you may not realize it, many people that you will never know have prayed for you. What caused me to spot this story by accident while staying in a town I probably will never return to? The only answer to that is "fate" just as it was your "fate" to be on that highway at that moment in time. This just confirms that none of us are in control of our destiny. I pray that you continue to heal the physical injuries, and I am positive that God will take care of the emotional injuries in time, and that His plan for you will heal your heart. I find comfort in this quote by an unknown source, "the people we love never truly die, for they are forever in our heart". I know that there is one brightly twinkling star in the night sky above your home, shinning down on you lighting your way.

Your story caught my attention while I was staying at a hotel in Addison,TX during my evacuation from Hurricane Gustav. It touched me and I felt compelled to save it to my computer so that I could check on your progress from time to time. What caused me to spot the story while in a town that I probably will never return to? I guess the only answer is "fate". As much as it was your "fate" to be on that highway at that moment in time. This only proves that none of us are in control of our destiny. I will probably never have the pleasure of meeting your or your family, and I hope you realize that many people whom you will never know have read about and have prayed for you. I pray that you continue to heal the physical injuries, and I am positive that God will, in time, heal your emotional ones, and that His plan for you will heal your heart. I have always liked this saying, "the people we love never truly die, because they are forever in our heart". Hi Jamie,
I have been following your story, and have attempted to find you on MySpace, but I haven't been successful. I would love to be able to continue to monitor your improvement, and to possibly offer assistance when I can see a need.
Would you please look me up in MySpace, I am Kaceymarie54, and send me a friend request.
God bless you, and keep you,

read through these sights occasionally. I am continuing my recovery, physically and emotionally. Once I am physically able I will be volunteering at Baylor Rehab, partly to help in others recovery and partly to aid in mine. I will never remember the accident, but I will never forget my wife. Please tell your spouse all those wonderful things you might have been holding back on. My life is forever changed and I do not know if I will ever find forgiveness for the Stankas family. I know it is not in my heart today. I hope none of you have to experience what I have. I will carry the emotional and physical scars for the rest of my life. I can only hope that I can help others through their tragedy. I have walked the path of death and I still remain standing. If anyone wishes to contact please write to jbgrace76@yahoo.com.

So I had a little setback on Thursday/Friday. I tried to die again, twice. I tried to return to my wife on her birthday. I thought I was done with that. No breathing or heartbeat, total seizure. I ended up back in the hospital for the night. It does not appear that it put my progress on my left side back any, but the medication they put me on has flattened me. I am not me at the moment. I am zombie me. They are taking me off that stuff and it should return me to me, much to many of your chagrins =). It does put my driving back for 6 months by state law.

Hey james, this is your 12 year old nephew in law.(I think so at least.) I am very, very sorry because of your loss and the tragity that happened. I dont blame anyone for the accident, but I do agree that people need to watch out and slow down whenever driving. Peoples text message or phone call can wait untill you get to a gas station or wherever your going.
I hope that you make a very fast recovery, and no matter what your mind is making you think, you'll get through it eventually.

Tyler, who is your mom/dad? You are better than I because there is a man and his family that stole my future that I can never forgive. I am turning my tragedy into a crusade to make life better for many of those that are like I was. I had family and friends there by my side literally every day. I will be that person by their side and help guide them unfortunately/fortunately I understand them. Everyone please turn your spare time into quality time helping others.

I didn't know Meagan very well or very long, only worked with her for 3 months in 2007, but I was contacted by your brother right after this happened when I tried to contact Meagan by email. I was shocked to hear about this awful tragedy. Meagan was really the only positive thing around me when I worked with her, so I always looked forward to talking with her and hearing her laugh. This tragedy has literally haunted my thoughts and also reminded me how fragile life really is. Everytime I see wreckless drivers on the highway, I stop and think about you and Meagan and what it must have been like for you. Please know that I continue to pray for you. You are in my thoughts and with God's will, you WILL get through this. You will find your reason for surviving. Keep the faith.

Thank you Amy for your kind words. Meg is missed by many, most of all me. Her smile, pretty face and sweet nature could brighten any day. I continue to move forward in therapy and life. Take care.

I have been at Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation since leaving East Texas Medical Center. I suffered head trauma and a stroke that was caused by the brain swelling. I have been working on rehabbing my left arm and leg, which were affected by the stroke.

I attend the Day Neuro Program at Baylor for rehab 5 days a week. I will start back to work in March on a part time basis.

Why I wrote is to bring attention to the volunteers that can make a world of difference in a patient's stay. Jeff Allen, the country writer and singer gave up an afternoon to entertain patients and staff. http://www.jeffallenmusic.com/ My friend Delaney Tenpenny at The Ranch radio station helped put this together. We have also managed to get Hayes Carll, Steve Helms, and Brad Roberson for March. I am still trying to get Randy White to return my phone calls to his cell phone. If you can bring attention to these do-gooders, it would be much appreciated. Bring attention to volunteering in general.

Jamie -

I just wanted to let you know that I continue my vigilence in praying for you and your family and in your continued recovery. I worked with Meagan here at our company (Meagan in HR and I in payroll) and it is just not the same anymore. She came by my office that Friday afternoon - excited about seeing her friend that had just had her baby. We talked for about 45 minutes - I'll always be thankful for taking that time to enjoy her company.

I don't pretend to understand why there are the types of people that don't think about what consequences can / will happen when we choose to break the law. In most cases the innocent people are the ones to suffer for anothers action - but in this case - all lost.

I have been blessed in so many ways from just knowing Meagan. God's gift of her friendship has not stopped - just put on hold for awhile until I see her again.

Jamie - I've never met you - but having known Meagan - I know that you are a person that has much to give to others in ways that you may never know. My prayers will continue for you and your family for the healing in both physical and emotional caused by this tragedy.

If there is ever anything that I can do - please let me know.

I will be putting together a website that focuses on the recovery of TBI and Stroke patients. I will also focus on the importance of volunteering and giving your time to a person or a purpose. The ideas are still floating in my brain. Once I have them down I will post the site.

I happened on this site because of an accident I was checking on that happened today on I-45 at Centerville that was tragic, involving 5 young people. As I was following your whole story I read Sept.12th 2008 when "the Lords Girl" told you her story and let you know that God still has a purpose for you here. I you have read back from the beginning til now, but I just want to say what a remarkable difference you are making already. From Aug. of 08 to April 30th, I can see how much God is working in your life! Im sure Meagan would be so proud!!She sounds like a dream come true. Im sure you have it, but the book "Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren is Awesome! Im so excited you are recovering so well. My prayers are with you.

I want to thank everyone for their support.
I want you to take a look at my website and pass it on to stroke and TBI survivors and caregivers. It is in the infant stages right now, but I will grow it with information.
