Where would they get the money to pay these off duty cops?
Besides, I never seen a Cop walking a beat in Tonawanda. I guess they're too busy fighting all the real crime up there.
Apparently you must not remember when the Rican got offed in the Sheridan Projects a few years ago and the Town of Tonawanda police paraded through the streets sporting AK-47s. The media reported it and everything! Now that's what I call badass!

They don't go there it's too dangerous.

<quoted text>They could always pay off duty, real cops,(such as Town of Tonawanda) to walk beats on weekends. Buffalo cops are a bunch of whining wussies who are afraid to get out of their vehicles for real crimes, like the ones that take place on Chippewa every weekend.
Bwahahaha
The TTP wouldn't answer calls to Lincoln Park for fear of darkies. They waited for backup from 'real cops' not afraid to mix it up.

The Tonawanda Police are not issued AK47s. Not even their SWAT team.

The Police Department has no problem increasing the details. Mayor Casey refuses to pay the OT to increase police presence and protection. In fact, minimum manpower levels are constantly lowered throughout the City to save money even though the City reports a budget surplus on a yearly basis.
The Chipp Detail consists of 10 Police Officers between Delaware And Pearl Sts on Friday and Saturday nights.
Of course the BPD has no problem increasing the details - it would put a whole lot of OT in their pockets. Why not adjust shifts and manpower from lower crime areas/times to ensure there are more cops in the entertainment district?

District manpower is at minimum manpower now. Your idea would take Officers from the high crime areas and put them downtown where they are basically babysitting drunks. There are no low crime areas left in the City. The areas with the least amount of crime have the least amount of Officers presently working there now.

The only resolution would be to hire more Cops. The City would rather pay the OT, it's cheaper.

How many districts are there? I find it hard to believe that parts of North Buffalo, South Buffalo, The Delaware district couldnt do without a couple of cars for 4 hours or so on a weekend night.

Another solution than just adding MORE people to the public payroll is reallocation of existing manpower. Or maybe adjusted shifts. There are other solutions that get put to the test in the private sector than just arbitrarily hiring.

There are 5 Districts. A - E. You can view the maps on the BPD website.
http://www.bpdny.org/

Adjusted shifts were tried and abandoned by the Administration because they could not be properly staffed by Police Officers and Supervisors due to insufficient manpower. They were called Manpower 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Only Manpower 2,4, and 5 remain. I believe a few Captains still work Manpower 3. The shifts overlapped each other which provided additional manpower during the overlap time periods.

This map shows the difference between the Pct and District type of policing.

In my opinion the city made a huge mistake going to Districts and one man cars.

I meant AR-15s. I was cleaning my AK today and that was what came to mind when I posted. Very astute of you, Sally. Point is, Town of Tonawanda police are REAL policeMEN, unlike the wussies in Buffalo. I'd like to see a Buffalo "cop" survive just one shift in the Sheridan Projects.
