Here we go again. Do parents not watch their children anymore?

I really wonder why people make comments like this? Children have minds of their own. They aren't pets. If it were up to those that either haven't had children or have elected not to have children, managing our everyday life, we'd end up exstinct! Be happy that the kids weren't hurt, then just shut up.

Alright, I agree with Christina, Kids make everything more difficult and If you turn your back for one minute they are already plotting their next move. The parent Cannot be there for every breaking moment and accidents do happen. If this was your family, how would you feel? This is a young family with two small children. Imagine a task of doing simple chores with two small children always on the go. They get into everything. They are curious and searching for new things to try. No one was hurt and I'm sure the parent was doing there best to stop what was happening.

Thankfully there was no oncoming traffic or it could have been a very scary scene.

Yep, it's hard, but you have to anticipate what your child might "possibly" do. My 20 month old grandson was playing with his mothers keys (the car door was shut thankfully or he probably would have done started the engine too) and keyed up the side of her car door. And we were standing right on the other side of the car! Never dreamed he would do that at 20 months old! Never underestimate the power of a determined child!

okay seriously, GET A LIFE CHRISTINA!
accidents happen, just because this one did doesn't give you the right to criticize their parenting, you don't even know them. they are good parents. kids are kids, they get into crazy things sometimes and it is definately not the parents fault. so grow up

I had nine brothers and 3 sisters. These kids pulled the same thing 3 of my brothers and sisters did, all at different times. After the first time Mom would hid the keys but they were found.
Since that time there has been nieces and nephews pulling this trick. Just recently our 2 and 3 year old grandsons got my truck keys on a rack 52 inches above the floor, went out the door, unlocked the truck, got in and did their thing. Fortunately the truck rolled into a small tree and not the road. History has repeated itself many times in our family and chances are it will continue to repeat. Kids are smart, wickedly smart. You can't blame parents for what the kids do if the parents had taken percussions.

Great parenting! These kids didn't have to do acrobatics to get the keys. Their father left them in the truck. Some parents lock their vehicle to ensure children don't have access. Kids may be "wickedly smart", but parents can be pretty stupid and very negligent. Would you all be brushing this off as nothing if there had been traffic and these children had been killed?

Why do they make these statements? Because these children were FOUR and SIX years old - the question should be WHY were they left alone long enough to get into the vehicle, find the keys on the floor, put them in the transmission, start the vehicle, and move the shift???? At 4 and 6, children need to be watched EVERY minute BECAUSE of the the fact that they have minds of their own (as you pointed out). We all know the mischief children can get into, and that is why you shouldn't take your eyes off of them for a minute, especially when they are playing outside! For the time it took them to do all of the above, it would have been just as easy for some scumbag child molester to grab them! I'm not a perfect parent, I've made mistakes, but never when my child was that young did I let her out of my sight outside!

Yes, when parents take precautions it is still possible for accidents to happen. The point with this particular story is that they DIDN'T take precautions. The keys were left on the floor of the vehicle, with the doors unlocked! And why were a 4 year old and 6 year old left outside alone at all, let alone long enough for something like this to occur? That is certainly not taking precautions!
