Ex-Buffalonians: Where do you lodge when you visit Buffalo?

Fair weather: Olcott Beach, despite the long drive to Buffalo and the sometimes DWI checkpoint in Lockport (easy to bypass if you're a map freak like me!).

Winter: A couple-three or so motels near Bob Evans restaurant where Transit Road meets Thruway/I-90 or sometimes the old-fashioned 'Bates Motel'-type places on Niagara Falls Blvd.

Future fair weather: We just bought a "hardwalled" (no canvass/nylon "tent" walls) Aliner-brand pop-up travel trailer last September and will consider nearby campsites in the future, but don't know where they are yet.

Can't wait to try the Aliner out ...

A real beaut-of-a-compromise. Heat, A/C, stove, fridge, and "gray water" plumbing (still gotta use the campsite's toilets and showers, although we have a boater's unisex "piss jug" for nighttime).

With the heat and A/C it's actually good for three seasons, and FAR more secure than tents or soft-walled pop-ups as the doors key-lock. However, it's relatively small, light, and easy to tow, and our more powerful V-6 Hyundai Tucson can easily do it (we have a 4-cylinder Tucson, too).

I'd probably avoid Darien Lakes, but would love to visit a nearby campground on Lake Erie or Ontario.

When I used to come back to visit Buffalo, I'd pick up drunk college chicks at PJ Bottoms, 3rd Base, Mollys, The Steer, Mickey Rats, BBC/Library. and either just go back to their dorm or off campus house.

HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA! YOU should invest in an Aliner or at least a classic camping van!

I never went to those places (except the city Mickey Rats one time on a week day in about 1985 because my brother knew the bartender and manager and I drank free), I thank you for the nostalgia

Did you ever go "spin the wheel" at Cassidy's on the corner of Main and Amherst?

I'm old enough to remember Sattler's Dept. store in that neighborhood. I remember the Johnny-7 OMA PRE-Rambo / Terminator-era multi-military toy gun in the display window (which my dad bought for me for Christmas '64) and him buying the oldest type (pre-'63 pack) of Polaroid dual-ROLL film in their photo dept. THAT was a 'classic' department store like in the Marx Bros. movie "The Big Store".
