Again, a horrible tragedy. Its a shame there isn't a bit more fear placed in young drivers today. On my way home today, I had a small car, pounding bass, loud enough to rattle my truck, following WAY too close. I was on a back road, following the limit as its a know place for troopers...didn't matter to the car load of teens! They followed right on my bumper! I sped up..he followed right behind! He passed me, way too close and way too fast! At the intersection he made a point of taking off like an *** and leaving 1/2 his tires on the road. Mind you it was in the middle of the afternoon on RT 104, and he cut off other vehicles. Parents...talk to your kids so we don't read about them every other day PLEASE!

I agree, I had a friend in high school who crashed into a tree on Greiner rd and Kraus rd in Clarence in 99'. He was speading into that turn going towards Kraus Rd, lost control, hit the tree and died. It was the day before his graduation ceremony.

Forget about puting ' the fear of God ' into your kids put the fear of death into them. Maybe on the day they get their lisence, parents should take their kids to the cemetery and have them pick out a grave site too.

These tragedy's need not happen and it's carelessness that is usually the cause. So sorry to the parents and family. Prayers to you.

Once again, a young life is lost due to another young person's inablility to drive safely. Driving skills, like any other hand-eye coordinated activity, are something that's learned over a period of time. When a young person passes a test to receive their driver's license, it only means that they have the ability to learn these skills. Our public schools need to place more emphasis on driver education and spend more time helping our young drivers to hone their skills before and after getting their licenses...

These kids were not out carousing around at this hour. They had waited in line for the new book release and then were enroute to visit another town.

One glaring similarity to the Fairport tragedy is that the teens were travelling in a convoy ... two cars traveling together. This has been a common factor in too many accidents. Teens show off for each other, let the other car distract them, and basically, shut out the rest of their surroundings.

And why were they out at that hour to get a newly released book? Because knowing the popularity of the Harry Potter Books stores use the midnight hour to entice the masses to storm their stores. An hour when it would be far better for the young to be off the road and home in bed. The parents will have much healing to do, beyond the loss of a son, since other family members are ultimately as responsible as the driver for his death, for irresponsibly taking part in the drag racing.... May the Lord see them through this tragedy and bring forgiveness to their hearts.

All because of stupid Harry Potter! Why don't they make these books on sale at 6am, or some other better time? Maybe, just maybe, this wouldn't have happened. They may not have been tempted to have a race on a dark, empty road! God bless the family.

What the hell is wrong with society? A young life is lost because AN 18 YEAR OLD WAS STREET RACING AND CRASHED, yet we're already trying to place blame on two corporations, the book store and Harry Potter? What the hell is wrong with you people.

No wonder these kids take no responsibility for their driving; they have people like you teaching them there is always someone else to blame.

o and Laurie, please DONT put any blame on the kids parents, thats a fucked up sick thing to do. I'm sure it took alittle nagging to get them to agree to let him go, and now those parents are gonna live that for the rest of their lives, you should have some sympathy.
