I just saw this on CNN. It proves my theory that autism is caused by genetic changes caused by marijuana use by both the mother and the father and second hand marijuana smoke.

Marijuana relieves the symptoms of the autistic kid jonesing for marijuana

When I was a kid, I was nervous and fearful, but when I started smoking cigarettes at 13, it all went away and I was mellow.

I noticed that now smoking cigarettes is a no no, there are a lot more violent psychos out there.Though I quit 6 years ago, I can truthfully say they helped a lot.

I always wondered if there was a connection between nicotine use and mental illness. I always wondered if cigarettes made people crazy, or if crazy people smoked cigarettes. Back in the late 70's, I worked at ECMC and half my time was spent dealing with the habitual loons who would come in there either voluntarily or involuntarily. I noticed almost ALL of them were smokers. One time this crazy old hag who was smoking a cigarette spit a nicotine tainted loogie in my face. The smell of it almost made me throw up.

I agree. L.C., you AREN'T serious about it causing autism, especially from (1) parental use affecting their DNA, and (2) second hand marijuana smoke once the child's born I'm assuming that you mean?

Even if you personally just tried it once and didn't like it, being my age ALONE you must have had TONS of friends that used it regularly and had perfectly normal kids.

I think it's TOTALLY strange that a L.E.A.P. member would target cannabis as - to echo Nixon and Reagan - "one of the worst drugs".
FYI, their prejudices against it were primarily SOCIOLOGICAL, and not pharmacological.

E.g., I personally believe that it kept me on the libertarian side of the conservative sub-divide even after lib-con 'fusionism' was no longer "chic" ... i.e. if I HADN'T been a stoner, when the 1970s turned into the '80s,'90s, and '00s I would have been MORE likely to dump my 'libby' side (on other topics too) and turn more socially reactionary as some of my friends did at the time.

Good Gawd, for this reason ALONE I think it should be legal as the 'reacto-cons' have perverted this country in their own way just as much as the PC-Left has!

I just posted that to get tbird wound up

My chosen drug is alcohol which I use heavily at my own house, and sometimes moderately in public but only with a designated driver. I usually don't get drunk away from the house because it is expensive . I can get drunk 20 times at home for what it would cost be to get drunk once in most bars.

I am a member of LEAP, not because I am pro drugs. There are some drugs like maybe PCP that probably should be illegal, but it has been proven time and time again that there is no way to effectively enforce drug laws no matter how much money and effort you put into it. Illegal drugs can't be kept out of maximum security prisons, so how can they be kept off the streets?

I thinks it's funny when people die of drug overdoses

You could be used for drug rehab.

They could you, the junkie, and some drugs in a cage. Every time the the junkie took a drug, you could lance one of your boils/carbuncles into his/her face. This would cause him/her to associate drugs with something very slimy and bad odors

After seeing that hyper kid in that video, the only answer to his problem would be a dose of heavy duty lead in his temple.Put the poor slob out of his misery like they would do with a rabid animal.

Well thanks for making me waste my time with this rant fellow Buffalo-buddy ;)!!!(For whom Buffalo must have looked VERY appealing from the pre-birth celestial sphere in 1957. I often wonder what MADE me leave the 'Star Child' realm for this too-often painful clay dimension 56 years ago ... or maybe I DIDN'T want to leave but was forced to so that my soul would evolve through the experiences in life)

Maybe my long time affinity for weed is really a secret longing for this 'ether' dimension. BTW I drink too, but my heaviest (liquid!) Bogart days are over and I've basically gone back to beer and wine (separately!) because extreme hard liquor drunkenness - especially continuous without breaks - has the effect of "crashing" my immune system these days ... i.e. I tend to get colds and flu-like ailments and then have to temporarily quit the sauce altogether and go on anti-pyretics like Tylenol 'til it's over.

I call the phenomenon in my previous post the "Both Sides Now" Syndrome after the same Judy Collins song. This NOT to say that long-term weed use automatically makes one a 'liberal'(as some conservatives erroneously believe) but in some people it DOES seem to broaden perspective and whether this keeps one who was raised trad-conservative the same,'libertarianizes' it somewhat, or turns them into flaming liberals is not in stone and largely depends upon their own individual personalities and the specific topic too.
