WONDER WHY

Buffalo, NY

The most incompetent Board of Directors for any human service agency in Western New york is Southeast Works Depew NY Why? They hired a CEO Pamela Hayes without doing a extensive background check. Ms Hayes asked the Board not to contact her last employer Valley light Industries where she held the same position for years she was interviewed for CEO at Southeast Works . The reason being she was found to be double dipping (AS PER SAN GABRIEL VALLEY TRIBUNE article aug 3 2012) read this for yourself.

The local news should investigate this as there was a cover-up no accountability by this Board at Southeast works. Ms Hayes is currently under investigation for embezzellment at Valley Light Industries also. That company at this time is experiencing financial difficulties at this time as a result of missing funds.

Well Its a know-wonder that suddenly they now have "policy" changed regarding transportation for the folks that are employed at SEW. Suddenly caregivers and SEW workers are forced to work less and and be forced into a "living skills" enviroment that is worse than a child day care program, or pay monthly transportation costs (if the work program is chosen) that they get paid crap for. Its a shame, and shame on their board. Their new policy states "If you work less than 2 days/week you HAVE to pay 85.00/month for transportation. Granted these folks dont get paid by the hour, they get paid a % of the work they do by the hour, based on the "average" for all those in the work program. Their policy stinks, and Im sure they are receiving special funds for their work vans/gas and repairs.

So once again, those incharge are stealing from the dissabled and the dissabled are left to pick up the pieces of financial mess. SEW should be ashamed oftheir policies and procedures for hire without and references or backgrond checks?

What you are saying has some validity. The participants are required to pay 85.00 per month for transportation even if they come in 1 time a month. Southeast gets 40.00 per day per individual even when there is no paid work or if there is paid work. The whole thing smells. As long as the medicaid system keeps paying for the Southeast works Babysitting services Southeast has no objections. If the taxpayer only knew how much of there medicaid dollar is being wasted.

Its not that they don't do background checks but if you ask Southeast not to contact your last employer they won't end of discussion. Congradulations your hired Thats how it went for Pam Hayes.

Medicaid picks up alot of the tab at Southeast Works.I thought medicaid was supposed to be used for medical needs? When I worked for a transportation company years ago the company I worked for would get 80.00 for 1 person per day multiply that by 6-8 people its a racket all from medicaid. I understand they need to make money but Really. I don't know what Southeast gets per day per person from medicaid for transportation. But back in the early 2000's it was 80.00 per person per day for the transportation company I worked for. NON-PROFIT yeah sure.
