Why isn't this a local issue instead of reaching to make this a Federal issue?

Maybe the Feds should be more concerned with terrorists blowing up marathons than some clown shoplifting autographs

Smashing a rural roadside mailbox with a baseball bat is also a Federal offense

Call the FBI next time it happens

Yes it is but there are Postal Inspectors who can investigate and lay Federal charges.....but you already know that, don't you!

I know a few things and there I many things I am working to forget with each passing day- and it feels great.
Isn't usually the Lancaster Police or ECSD road patrol who handle mail box smashings with phone reports. I'll bet postal inspectors NEVER handle mail box smashing offenses
Look at this paragraph:
"The criminal complaint is the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Force, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Richard M. Frankel and the United States Secret Service, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Tracy Gast."
Explain to me what federally prosecuting some document thief has anything to do with "safe streets"?
I would feel no less safe because somebody stole an old memo written by Mayor Grover Cleveland about appointing a new Commissioner of Parks or whatever.
Couldn't some 60 year old BPD desk jockey like yourself have handled this big time investigation? Who was keeping an eye in terror cells in Lackawanna while this "Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Force, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Richard M. Frankel and the United States Secret Service, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Tracy Gast." were effing around with this nonsense.
I guess their next big case will be to invade some more flea markets selling fake Nike hats and fake fancy handbags

Safe Streets is a FBI funded Task Force with a number of local jurisdiction members. They also have a Anti-Terrorist Task Force, a Cyber Crime Task Force, and God knows how many other Task Forces running now. And actually ICE handles the knock off investigations.

Nobody at the federal level investigates smashed mailboxes anymore. Its just a simple vandalism report and call us if it happens again. So somebody please smash the LC box - with his hand inside. Or light a paper bag and throw it on his front porch.
