Nothing to brag about. I'd be impressed if you got it by MERIT and job performance, not simply by being the oldest guy there.

LOL! In the public sector there is no such thing as merit and job performance. It's all politics and I refuse to play that game.

I have been hurt more by Democrats then by conservatives. Been working without a contract since 2007. Most of the contracts I have worked under were arbitrated. Most of the arbitrators were conservatives.
That is because Buffalo is Democrat/Liberal city most of the time. Weren't you around when Conservative "Gimme Jimmy" Griffin was screwing you over? Remember when he started yapping on the police radio about an illegally parked car on his street and every cop on the street started saying nasty stuff to him over the radio for about a half hour to the point nobody could talk on the radio? Nothing but buzzing, clicking and "go-f-yourself"

Did you hear Michigan is "right to work" now? NYS is not far behind. Their first move in NYS will be to change the pension rules to base your pension on your base salary without OT. They will also lower the multiplier and increase the years of service and age to 25/50.

9/11/2001 was along time ago. The voters are back to hating you

You better take your pension and RUN.

So, you "refuse to play the game"

Every suckass cop I ever met claims the same thing

They have already changed the pension rules. They are up to Tier 6 now I think. I'm Tier 2 and 8 months max from retirement. There are only a handful of Tier 1 employees left.

Griffin was a tool. Nobody could get promoted or transfered to a choice position unless you were from South Buffalo, of Irish descent, or a friend of Jimmy! He was the main factor in the union's fight for seniority. The story was that Jimmy wanted to be a cop. Of course being the midget he was he didn't qualify because of his small stature. He became Mayor and thought he would boss the cops around on his police radio. That was a huge mistake on his part. He finally had the police radio removed from his car to stop getting abused.

If you didn't "play the game" you'd still be a patrolman.

So the crux of what you are saying is that unions protect guys who won't "play the game"? They do have a useful purpose? Doesn't that go against your supposed conservative political views?

My father who was born in 1906 worked with Jimmy's father in the fire department and he told me Jimmy was always a pisspot.

The Irish thing at BPD was a long , long, long time ago and only made a brief and minor comeback when Jimmy was running the show. They Eye-talians have had a solid grip on the BPD and still do. Look how Gipson (who was competent and respected by all) was run out on a rail because of a penile implant and a couple of dented fenders to make room for an uneducated tshirt salesman and political hack

It is because of the sacrifices of historical Democrat union people that you enjoy the luxury of being "grandfathered" in tier 2. The Neocons could take that away from you with the stroke of a pen

I also call BS on Neocon's claim that he refuses to "play the game". Being a successful cop has very little to do with putting bad guys in jail and everything to do with selling ones soul

That's the way it used to be under Griffin. Seniority changed it. But there are still some exempt positions where the game must be played.

Don't be stupid. Every rank from P.O. to Inspector is Civil Service. And until recently your written test score was the only factor on where you placed on the official list.

The union's only job is to negotiate the Collective Bargaining Agreement and insure the City follows it.

And getting a political appointment as a housing guard was not a way in the back door to BPD??????????

Back in the day there were Community Peace Officers and Police Cadets. That was the back door in. Those people would be put at the top of the list. When the BMHA dumped their security force some became BPD officers but not all of them. Most took the promotional test which is the Civil Service method for present City employees. It is the same test the general public takes.

I came on in the traditional way. Took the Civil Service test and waited. I had no hooks to get in.

Don't be so naive. Civil Service rules are played fast and very loose. Favorites are still promoted through loopholes. If they want you, you get it. If they don't, you don't. It's as simple as that. Now being as I have never held a civil service job (I prefer to make it on my own, not rely on a union but that's just me), you would know better (since you have been on the teat for decades and all), so correct me if I'm wrong but they don't even have to hire the top score? They can hire any of the top 3... and so on down the list? Bottom line is, civil service is by no means a way to stop sycophants from advancing over more deserving candidates.
You can paint it whatever way makes you feel better, but like you said - theres NO promotion made on merit in the public sector nor is there anyone promoted that they don't want to be. Face it.... you "play the game" you claim you don't to some extent, or you'd still be a patrolman PERIOD.
Much like the denial that you are a hypocrite as far as being a "Neocon" and a union member, you are in denial that you actually "play the game".
I see a pattern emerging with you.

For someone who claims to never have been a civil servant you sure seem to know all about it. Tell me, what position did you try for that you were rejected? Could it be they used the one in three rule against you? Maybe your Civil Servant sister can answer your questions more to your satisfaction. Obviously SHE plays the game.

You must have scored VERY high and had 5 vet points. Between the Judge Curtin's set aside quotas and the back door BS, very few got hired on merit

Don't try to change the subject! You are so predictable.

As far as knowing "all about" civil service rules, I live in WNY where the Gov't is the largest employer. Everyone knows at least a handful of people on the public teat, and has seen as friends, neighbors, relatives went through the crooked system. I also have a little thing called Google. Ever hear of it Flat foot?

Now tell me again how connections and ass kissing are rendered useless by civil service.

Back around 1978 or maybe 1979 or so, I took the BPD exam. It was back when Fed Judge Curtin ordered that they hire 50% Black or Hispanic, 25% women, and 25% white males. I lived inside the city limits at the time, but I was nowhere near making the 20/40 eyesight requirement.

I had red hair and fair freckled skin, but based on some BS theory my mother had why some of our family and other Irish people had dark hair (some invading Spanish and Portuguese sailors had banged some Irish chicks 600 years prior) I checked the box that said "Hispanic"

Well, guess what? They called me in the first group before they called a bunch of white males with higher scores. I went for the PT test at Bennett HS and passed and they called me for the doctor's physical.

By that time, I had been living and working out of state for about a year. Somebody told me they checked your credit report to see where your bills were being mailed, so I could not use my parent's address without getting caught. They also checked for contact lenses, so I never showed up for the doctor
