Here’s my two cents—My first bike was loud as sin, because the previous owner had replaced the pipes. Rode it for three years getting condescending looks and even a rant from a mom in my community, but no accidents. Then I got a new bike with quieter pipes. Not even two weeks later I was riding through an intersection near my neighborhood and was hit by that same mom. She was on her phone and didn’t check for oncoming traffic. It broke my collarbone, pelvis and right knee. I was wearing a helmet. I’d rather get rude hand gestures or chewed out by an angry soccer mom than not get noticed and plowed into again. So yeah; loud pipes do say “look at me,” and for good reason.

The noise comes out of the pipes is pointed back, unless your driving backwards how is the sound going to be heard???
I have to ask, what is the point of revving the engine while stopped at a traffic light?
Unless the bike is a piece of crap and going to stall, why is the revving need???
Brum…Brum…look at me, I’m on a motorcycle…woooow!
I have to agree with the bass pounding cars, they are also a “Hey look at me!!”
I used to have a bike like that! But other than that, there is no need to rev at a stoplight.

his wife snores to loud
blah blah blah blah
he won't listen he just doesn't like bikers cause we're the last group it's PC to lash out at.
he's intimidated by our freedom
mad cause his daughter has the hots for us
and has his pantys in a bunch
Your an idiot. Have fun but don't annoy the rest of us. Your freedom should not interfere with my freedom to not be constantly annoyed by bikes that are louder than freight trains!

Let me get this straight, your saying because we believe loud motorcycles are obnoxious that we " kill bikers and get away with it?" that's so ridiculous I don't even know what to say except now I'm going to start pounding on my representative to start enforcing noise ordinances.

I see another "Biker" bought the farm last night.

why do people continue to ride them?

generally bike riders are the dumbest of the dumb....time to eliminate bikes from the road altogether.

let the idiots migrate to some other suicidal act.

Loud pipes are rude. They disturb everyone in their vicinity, except perhaps their inconsiderate motorcycle operator. I've been biking for 49 years and always thought loud pipes a gross imposition on the general public. I have a big Harley and its nice and quiet. The way it came from the factory and the way it should be. Loud pipes are just plain rude and show off the ignorance and inconsideration of the rider.

I hate all that loud noise. I get the urge to lay in ambush and shoot out their tires and boom boxes.
The goofiest thing is 70 year old geezer bikers with their white beards revvin it up going down the street. Next thing you will see is geezers sagging their pants so their pampers show and texting.

I'm with you brother. On the weekends some retart with ia super loud bike would come down the street waking everyone. I need to end this story here.

There used to be a big Black biker club on the corner of Genesee and Johnson, that would rev up and down Genesee, day and night but I haven't heard them for a couple of years.

What needs to be done is ticket the bikers more often! The more they ticket them, the less you will see them or they will slow down. Bikes that go 0 to 60 in less than 2 seconds have no place on the road with normal traffic. Speed kills. Noise is pollution too.

We should adopt the same stance as they have in Japan where motorcycling is not just a recreational outlet but the way of live for many commuters. Not seeing a motorcycle is not an excuse, burning headlights and louder exhaust systems are there for the car drivers. The rule is if you hit a biker you are going to get cited if you kill a biker you are going to jail. All of the statistics we read and hear about motorcycle accidents make them out to be a very unsafe means of transportation, but most of those statistics are not accounting for other vehicular driver's indifference. All of the stats get blown out of proportion, it is not only motorcycle operator error. All of you 4 wheelers out there think about this....what is your very first gut feeling when you are driving down the road and a group of motorcycles pull up behind you? If you are honest with yourself you will be saying the feeling is somewhere between intimidation and road rage. It does not even enter into your mind that the majority of today's bikers are driving somewhere between $15,000 to $40,000 worth of machine and their reason for riding is the "pride of ownership" and embracing the freedom riding affords. It would be so much more enjoyable if all of you others on the road took as much pride in you ride and respect for the road as your average run of the mill recreational motorcyclist.
I've been riding for over fifty years, I have never owned a motorcycle with out a muffler and never intend to.

I have competed in AMA racing events for over 40 years and at all off road events and all bikes must have muffler and pass a sound test.

The theory loud pipes that it is a safety is just stupid, the same group of people that say loud pipes save lives ride without helmets or proper safety gear.

The freedom of the open road is another issue, most of these people only ride from bar to bar, all riding the same style of bike and dressed the same way.

There is more to motorcycling than putting a hanky on your head taking the muffler off your bike and riding from bar to bar.

You call yourselves freedom loving individuals but show up with and different bike than the rest or dressed differently and see what happens.

Grow up and learn to respect other peoples rights.

Hey Old Fart, isn't that like the pot calling the kettle black? You have your style to ride and others have theirs too. Don't denigrate because YOU don't like it. I bet you ride one of those Beemer sewing machines....probably with a SC too. More power to you. Just remember, yours isn't the only game in town. Peace out!

Agree, motorcycles do not have to be so loud. They are often enhanced to be that way and it is very upsetting to hear that noise day in and day out if you happen to live in a high traffic area. When they sit at a traffic light and rev up their engines, which also serves no purpose other than to annoy everyone in the area, it grates on my nerves pretty bad. Sometimes it feels like there is no escape from the noise. Even rural areas are infested with this noise. And unfortunately, even cars with loud pipes get by law enforcement. These guys really let go on rural roads and it can sound like a rocket is being launched. Crazy!
